The Crew have been excellent at taking the fight to their opponent over their past 11 matches, as they’ve scored in the first half in 10 of them. Atlanta’s first-half defense has mostly been good, as it has held five of its past seven opponents scoreless in the first half.
But when the Five Stripes couldn’t keep Real Salt Lake off the scoreboard in the first few minutes, the floodgates opened. Even thought Atlanta equalized before halftime, the damage had been done, as RSL hit the Five Stripes for four goals in the second half. Things tend to get uglier the longer the match goes, which plays well for Columbus. However, the Crew have had issues on defense, which means there’s value in an Atlanta goal.
