The Atlanta Braves will duke it out with the San Diego Padres for the last game of their four-game series at Petco Park on Sunday.
The Braves are attempting to prevent a sweep after losing the first three games of their series with the Padres. Saturday’s loss was perhaps the most painful. After keeping the Padres scoreless through the six innings behind terrific pitching from Spencer Schwellenbach, the Braves conceded the first and only run of the match as Padres Yuli Gurriel came through with an RBI single in the 7th inning.
As for the Padres, they have shown they can win ballgames in different ways. San Diego opened their season with a 7-4 win over the Braves and then demonstrated clutch hitting and fielding to earn back-to-back wins by one run.

AJ Smith-Shawver will start for the Braves on Sunday, looking to help his team get their first win of the season. He’s facing off against Nick Pivetta, who is 3-2 with a 2.54 ERA over his last five starts. Smith-Shawver threw three earned runs in a 0-4 loss to the Padres on October 1, 2024. Pivetta blanked the Braves with 9 strikeouts through seven innings last June 5. The Padres, who 5-2 SU in their last 7 games and 2-1 ATS this season, are clearly in a strong position to sweep this series with Pivetta showing his stuff on the mound.
