Naomi Osaka of Japan will vie for a spot in the main draw of the Cincinnati Open on Monday, taking on Ashlyn Kruger of the United States in the final qualifying match. With Osaka dropping to No.95 in the latest WTA world rankings, the Japanese has to go through the qualification phase to earn her ticket into the WTA 1000 event. Osaka escaped with a 6-2 2-6 6-2 win over Anna Blinkova of Russia in her first qualifying match. The former world's No.1 is still in search of her first WTA title since making her return in the WTA circuit early this year after taking a leave to give birth to her first child in 2023. Kruger will try to improve on her third-round finish at the 2024 Canadian Open last week. The American cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win over Moyuka Uchijima of Japan to arrange a winner-takes-all showdown with Osaka on Monday.
