Ashlyn Krueger of the United States gets a difficult opponent in the second round of the Miami Open as she takes on world’s No.8 Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan in the second round on Thursday.
Krueger booked her slot in the second round after sweeping Renata Zarazua of Mexico 6-3 6-2. The American has a 13-8 card this 2025 WTA season, in which she made quarterfinal stints at Adelaide and Brisbane International and a breakthrough final stint at a WTA 500-level event in Abu Dhabi.
Rybakina maintains her status as a legit contender in the 2025 WTA Tour season with a 15-6 slate. Still, it’s unusual to see the Kazakh not making a final appearance up to this point of the year. She made it to the semifinal of the Dubai Tennis Championship and round of 16 at Indian Wells, where she got eliminated on both occasions by teen sensation Mirra Andreeva.
