Mirra Andreeva of Russia will take on Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus for the Indian Wells women’s singles title on Sunday.
pulled off another massive win over former world’s No.1 Iga Swiatek 7-6(1) 1-6 6-3 on Saturday. It marked the second time in three weeks that Andreeva beat Swiatek in a WTA 1000 event. Riding on a 10-match winning streak, Andreeva exudes confidence in going toe-to-toe with Swiatek under windy playing conditions, trading big shots with one of the best shot-makers in women’s tennis today and having the resilience to bounce back after she got totally wrecked in the second set. The 17-year-old Andreeva showed poise and skills beyond her years, while harnessing the killer instinct to finish off Swiatek when she’s threatening to rally in the third. 3 of the 4 breakpoint conversions that Andreeva captured came in the third set, including the final-clinching point in the 9th game.
Meanwhile, Sabalenka avenged her loss at the Australian Open final in a big way by obliterating Madison Keys 6-0, 6-1. Sabalenka came out of the gates like a house on fire, winning the first 11 games until Keys ended the drought with a hold in the sixth game of the second set. The Belarusian held in the next service turn to seal her first final appearance at the 2025 Indian Wells Open.
