A rematch of the 2024 US Open final, Aryna Sabalenka and Jessica Pegula will duke it out again for tennis superiority at the 2025 Miami Open.
Sabalenka overwhelmed Jasmine Paolini of Italy 6-2 6-2, ensuring a back-to-back final appearance in this year’s Sunshine Double. The world’s No.1 played to her lofty status, holding serves throughout while applying constant pressure by connecting 78 percent of her first serves. Sabalenka also broke Paolini four times to carve out her most dominant win over the Italian in their head-to-head series.
Pegula survived a feisty challenge from promising wild card Alex Eala to arrange a rematch with Sabalenka in the Miami Open final. Coming off a three-set win over Emma Raducanu late Thursday evening, the American found herself in a 5-2 hole in the first season after a sluggish start. Instead of conceding the set, Pegula rattled off three consecutive games and forced a tiebreaker, where she edged the inexperience Eala. The two traded blows in a back-and-forth battle in the second set won by Eala before Pegula came through under pressure to put the Filipina away for good in the deciding set, 7-6(3) 5-7 6-3.

Aryna Sabalenka will bounce back from her loss at Indian Wells with another dominant showing against Jessica Pegula. Coming into her fourth final of the season, Sabalenka sports a 22-4 record in the year and has yet to drop a set in Miami. She also holds an impeccable 6-2 record in her head-to-head series vs. Pegula, whom she defeated at the 2025 US Open final. It’s not like Pegula stands no chance against the world’s No.1 on Saturday, but she needs to develop a better game plan to top Sabalenka. Another factor that I think will affect Pegula’s form is fatigue. She has already played three tough three-set matches in this tournament, including the last two that extended into the wee hours. I don’t know if there’s anything left in the tank for Pegula, who will face an opponent that breezed through to the finals.
