The WTA tournament in Stuttgart continues in Germany, and this 8th-final clash is nothing new for the German crowd. The two Russian players, Aryna Sabalenka and Anastasia Potapova, have already met in the semi-finals of this same tournament in 2023.
And it was the number 1 seed, Aryna Sabalenka, who won their duel and secured her place in the final, before losing to Iga Swiatek. Virtually unstoppable in the 2025 season, the Russian suffered a setback in the Australian Open final, losing to American Madison Keys. After losing a second time in the BNP Paribas Open final to Mirra Andreeva, she turned things around by winning the Indian Wells title against Jessica Pegula last month.
For her part, Anastasia Potapova arrived in Stuttgart with two consecutive defeats on her record, having lost in the second round in Indian Wells and then in the first round in Miami. This followed her success at the Cluj-Napoca tournament, where she beat Lucia Bronzetti to win the title. Having just played the first clay-court match of her season, the Russian appears to be in good form and won her first round match here against world No. 21 Clara Tauson in a tight duel.
