Former Pac-12 rivals the Arizona Wildcats and Utah Utes will meet for the first time as members of the Big 12 on Saturday when the Utes host the Wildcats at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City. Just like in the old “Pac-12 After Dark” days, kickoff is not until 10:15 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on ESPN.
Utah could have revenge in mind this weekend; Arizona destroyed the Utes last season in Tucson 42-18. Noah Fifita led a passing attack that totaled 325 yards and four touchdowns on the day, going 22-30 for 253 yards and two scores. But the Wildcats had something in that game they may not have Saturday—a rushing attack. The Wildcats did not have an overwhelming run game, but they had 118 yards and a touchdown; Jonah Coleman led the way with 90 yards and a score on 14 carries. Arizona had a solid run game this season against New Mexico (205 yards) and Northern Arizona (188 yards). But they only had 56 against Kansas State, their only loss of the season.
But the issue against Kansas State was more than just an inability to run the ball. They couldn’t stop the Wildcats from running for 235 yards and a touchdown. Utah has one of the top run games in the country, powered by Micah Bernard (25 carries for 182 yards last week vs. Oklahoma State).

It is not clear who will get the start this week for the Utes. True freshman Isaac Wilson or Cam Rising. Rising has been out for a couple of weeks with a hand injury. Wilson has played well in his stead, but the real hero of the day for the offense has been running back Micah Bernard (123 yards vs. Utah State, 182 yards vs. Oklahoma State).
Arizona needs to get both facets of their offense going to have a chance to win this game. But they’ll have a hard time doing so against a solid Utah defense. With Bernard leading the way, it will not matter who plays quarterback for the Utes.
