The No. 9 Iowa State Cyclones (21-7, 11-6) will try to stop their losing streak at two games when they host the No. 22 Arizona Wildcats (19-9, 13-4) tonight at the Hilton Coliseum in Ames, IA. Tipoff for this Big 12 battle between ranked teams is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET with coverage on ESPN.
Iowa State comes into the game more in need of a win after dropping their last two, both on the road, 68-59 vs. Houston (Feb. 22) and 74-68 vs. Oklahoma State on Tuesday. Houston’s defense clamped down on the Cyclones from the start, getting out to a 34-22 lead at the break before letting off the gas in the second half. Much like the Houston game, Iowa State struggled to make shots in the first half against the Cowboys, falling behind 40-26. They made a valiant comeback effort in the second half, outscoring Oklahoma State 42-34, but it was not enough.
As for Arizona, the Wildcats have lost three of their last five, including a home loss to Houston a couple of weeks ago and a 96-95 defeat at the hands of BYU last weekend. They bounced back on Wednesday with a dominant win over Utah, 83-66.

However, Arizona is a solid road team (6-3) and did handle Iowa in Tucson earlier in the season (86-75 OT, Jan. 27). However, the game was much closer than the score would indicate. The Cyclones appear to be the more complete team on paper, but Arizona has already proven they can compete with them, and Iowa State is not bringing its ‘A’ game at the moment. It would not shock me to see Arizona win, but it is more likely they will keep this one close.
