The San Diego Padres and the Arizona Diamondbacks will open a four-game series on Thursday with both clubs looking to bounce back from a loss. The Diamondbacks failed to complete a three-game sweep of the San Francisco Giants after losing the third game 9-3. Arizona could not muster enough strength to recover from a devastating Grand Slam homer by Wilmer Flores that put the Giants up 6-1 in the third inning. The D-Backs cut the deficit down to 6-3 but Jorge Soler’s homer in the 8th inning sparked three unanswered runs to seal the win for the Giants. The loss snapped Arizona’s four-game winning streak and put the below .500 at home with a 15-16 record. The Diamondbacks (29-33) sit in fourth place in the NL West standings, 8.5 games below the L.A Dodgers (38-25). Meanwhile, the Padres will try to finally barge into the winning column after suffering their fourth consecutive defeat in a 3-2 loss to the L.A Angels. San Diego had several chances to steal the game but they could not score a run since the 6th inning. The Padres (32-33) remain second in the NL West; however, the distance that separates them and the top-ranked Dodgers has now grown to seven games.
