Even a victory may not be enough, as they need Chile to beat Canada in the other Group A match taking place on Saturday. Argentina have already booked their place in the quarter finals, and a draw will ensure they finish as group winners. Argentina - Peru: Form Analysis
Argentina are on a seven game winning run and have won 21 of their last 22 matches in all competitions. That run incorporates their extraordinary victory in the 2022 World Cup final, when they defeated France on penalties following a pulsating 3-3 draw. They are also the current holders of the Copa America title, beating Brazil 1-0 in the 2021 final.
Peru were in very good form prior to the 0-1 defeat to Canada. They had been unbeaten in six, conceding just two goals during those games. Their record in recent Copa Americas is also very strong. They reached the last four in 2021, and at the previous tournament, they went all the way to the final b before losing 3-1 to Brazil. Their only two tournament victories came in 1975 and 1939.
This will be the 58th meeting between Argentina and Peru, with the world champions holding a healthy 36-7 lead in the head to head. The sides last met in October 2023, when two goals from Lionel Messi gave Argentina a 2-0 victory in a World Cup 2026 qualification game. That was Argentina's fourth consecutive clean sheet against the Peruvians.

Argentina rested Lionel Messi for the win over Paraguay, but he is expected to return to the lineup at the expense of Nicolás González. The only other possible change could see Lisandro Martinez come in for veteran centre half Nicolás Otamendi. Lisandro Martinez came off the bench to score the winner against Paraguay, however he is unlikely to dislodge Julian Alvarez from the starting eleven.
