Coco Gauff of the United States look to keep on rolling as she vies for a spot in the fourth round of the Madrid Open against compatriot Ann Li in Saturday’s round of 32.
Gauff, the No.4 seed in Madrid, averted another early exit after hacking out a 0-6 6-2 7-5 win over Dayana Yastremska of Ukraine in the second round. A quarterfinalist at the Stuttgart Open a week ago, Gauff looked depleted in the first set before she turned things around in the second set of a three-set thriller.
Ann Li pulled off a signature win over Leylah Annie Fernandez of Canada in three sets, 6-4 3-6 6-4, to arrange a third-round showdown with Gauff. Li scored 36 first-serve points and broke Fernandez three times to earn a win against top-30 player on the WTA Tour.
