Andrew Rublev of Russia takes on rising star Arthur Fils of France for the right to advance into the quarterfinals of the 2025 Monte Carlo Masters on Thursday.
Rublev made it to the round of 16 after outlasting Gael Monfils in a dogfight of a two-setter 6-4 7-6(2) on Wednesday. A former champion in this tournament, the Russian relied on his experience to earn the important points in crucial moments, specifically in the second set tiebreaker where he rattled off five unanswered points to win the match.
Fils showed once again why he’s the future of French tennis after clinching his third consecutive round of 16 appearance at a ATP 1000 tournament with surgical 6-2 6-4 win over Flavio Coboli of Italy. Fils held all his serves and captured three breakpoint conversions that allowed him to put his Italian foe away in one hour and 10 minutes.
