Alexander Zverev will try to exorcise his demons as he shoots for a semifinal spot at the 2025 BMW Open against fellow ATP veteran Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands on Friday.
Zverev moved three wins away to winning his first title in 2025 after beating compatriot Daniel Altmaier 6-3 6-2. It has been testy year for Zverev, who has conceded the world’s No.2 ranking to Carlos Alcaraz after losing to Matteo Berrettini 2-6 6-3 7-5 in the second round of the Monte Carlo Masters. Zverev landed 70 percent of his first serves, scoring 31 points off them. He also broke Altmaier’s serves four times to complete a sweep.
Griekspoor made it to his second clay-court quarterfinal following a 7-6(3) 6-3 win over Yannick Hanfmann. Griekspoor, also a quarterfinalist at Indian Wells Open and a finalist at the 2025 Hassan Grand Prix in Morocco, had also eliminated American rising star Learner Tien 6-4 6-2 in the first round.
