World’s No.2 Alexander Zverev will try to stop the bleeding as he tries to rebound from a disappointing Sunshine Double run on Tuesday, taking on a feisty Matteo Berrettini in the second round of the 2025 Monte Carlo Masters.
It has been a rough campaign since reaching the final of the 2025 Australian Open for Zverev, who again secured the top seed of the Monte Carlo Master with world’s No.1 Jannik Sinner still serving his three-month suspension. Zverev have lost five of his last 10 matches, crashing out in the second round of the 2025 Indian Wells Open at the hands of Tallon Griekspoor 4-6 7-6(5) 7-6(4) before bowing to Arthur Fils 3-6 6-3 6-4 in the round of 16 at the Miami Open.
As for Berrettini, his 2025 run has also been riddled with up and down moments. The Italian has compiled 10-7 a record this year, having reached three quarterfinal rounds – including a round-of-8 finish at Indian Wells. On Monday, Berrettini arranged a second-round clash with Zverev after downing Mariano Navone of Argentina 6-4 6-4.
