Alexander Zverev of Germany braces up for an action-packed showdown with Ben Shelton of the United States in the men’s singles final of the 2025 BMW Munich Open.
Zverev finally clinched his first final appearance since the Australian Open, vanquishing Fabian Marozsan of Hungary 7-6(3) 6-3 in Saturday’s semifinal match. After the disappointments during the Sunshine Double and in Monte Carlo, where he was eliminated in the second round by Matteo Berrettini of Italy, the world’s No.3 exorcised his demons with a morale-boosting win over Marozsan, who hadn’t dropped a set until the semifinals.
Shelton continued to play exceptionally well on the red dirt despite coming into the clay court season with a subpar record of 17-15 on the surface. Shelton has now racked up four impressive wins, including a gutsy 2-6 7-6(7) 6-4 victory over clay-court expert Francisco Cerundolo of Argentina in the semis. The American pulled off the comeback win by collecting 36 points off his first serves while earning three breakpoint conversions between the second and third sets.

Our Alexander Zverev vs Ben Shelton Prediction
Fearless Forecast: Ben Shelton will showcase his evolution as a refined clay-court player anew, giving Zverev everything he could handle in what will likely be a toe-to-toe championship match. Shelton is my pick to cover +3.5 games spread but I still think it’s the crowd favorite Zverev who will come away with the title.
Reasoning: Zverev defeated Shelton in their first and only match to date in the quarterfinal of the 2024 Cincinnati Open, 3-6 7-6(3) 7-5. We are about to see another three-set warfare between these two proud competitors since they are virtually unbreakable in Munich. They have held their serve north of 85 percent in the tournament, with Zverev holding 91 percent and Shelton winning his serves at 87 percent.
Sunday’s final match could produce one of the best championship matches in Munich, with both players eager to seize momentum this early into their French Open buildup. It will be Shelton’s formal introduction as a formidable clay-court player on the Tour, yet it will also remind him that he might still need seasoning to get to the top level.
Our betting prediction for Alexander Zverev vs. Ben Shelton: Ben Shelton +3.5 Games.
