Alexander Zverev vs Alexander Shevchenko Prediction & Picks - ATP Rio Open
by Lou Aguila | in Tennis Picks
Alexander Zverev of Germany is eyeing a deeper campaign at the Rio Open after his shocking quarterfinal loss in Argentina. The Australian Open runner-up will duke it out with Alexander Shevchenko of Kazakhstan in the second round of the 2025 Rio Open. Zverev eased the pain of his quarterfinal loss to Francisco Cerundolo of Argentina 3-6 6-3 6-2 by carving out a hard-earned win over China’s Bu Yunchaokete 7-6(4) 6-4. The top-seeded German was plagued with errors in his first-round match but did just enough to fend off his Chinese foe. Zverev won 32 points on his firsts serves and broke three times to secure his entry into the second round. Shevchenko improved his record to 4-5 on the ATP Tour this year, beating Felipe Meligini Alvez 6-4 6-2. The Kazakh drilled in 10 aces and won 22 points on his first serves while capturing six break point conversions.

Our Alexander Zverev vs Alexander Shevchenko Prediction
Instead of competing for lucrative prize money and precious ATP world ranking points in the Middle East, Alexander Zverev opted to play in back-to-back clay-court tournaments in Latin America in an attempt to hone his skills on the red dirt ahead of the 2025 French Open. With his quarterfinal defeat to Cerundolo now a thing of the past, Zverev aims for better results in Rio, where a handful of clay court experts are competing. Shevchenko has a 62.5 percent win rate on clay, but I feel like he’s going to struggle against Zverev, who boasts 70 percent win rate on the red dirt. Moreover, the German owns a 75.1 win percentage in the second round and is usually merciless against players ranked outside the ATP top-100. Our betting prediction for Alexander Zverev vs. Alexander Shevchenko: Zverev will cover –5.5 games.
