American rising stars Alex Michelsen and Learner Tien will meet in a fascinating first-round duel of the 2025 US Men’s Clay Court Championship on Monday.
After a red-hot start to his 2025 ATP campaign, Michelsen’s momentum has hit a speed bump in the past few weeks, during which he lost four of his last six matches. Michelsen didn’t have a memorable campaign during this year’s Sunshine Double. He retired 10 minutes into his second-round match with Daniil Medvedev due to nose nose-bleeding incident and lost to Camilo Ugo Carabelli 6-7(3) 7-5 6-3 in the second round of the Miami Open.
Tien has dropped his last three matches since reaching the quarterfinal round in Acapulco. The American also experienced a forgettable Sunshine Double campaign, bombing out in the first round of both the Indian Wells Open and Miami Open.
