Tien, meanwhile, pulled off arguably the biggest upset in the tournament by beating top-seed and world’s No.20 Arthur Fils 4–2, 4–2, 3–4(4–7), 4–3(7–5). The 19-year-old sensation from Irvine, California won 81 percent of his first serves and broke Fils two times, allowing him to earn a stunning win over the heavy favorite Frenchman.
