Coming off a massive upset win, Alex Michelsen of the United States will try to maintain his hot form as he battles James McCabe of Australia in the second round of the 2025 Australian Open. Michelsen came through with the biggest upset at the 2025 Australian Open so far, knocking out former finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece 7-5 6-3 2-6 6-4. The 20-year-old American demonstrated exceptional shot-making and poise to beat Tsittsitpas, who suffered his second straight first-round exit at a Grand Slam tournament.
Michelsen won 59 points on his first serves and earned five breakpoints in this match. McCabe also won in his Grand Slam debut, defeating Martin Landaluce of Spain 6-4 6-3 6-4. The Aussie controlled the match by winning 83 percent of his first serves and holding all his serves. He also converted three of nine breakpoint chances to earn his first-ever Grand Slam win.
