Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz of Spain could punch their ticket to the semifinal round of the men’s doubles competition at the 2024 Paris Olympics, provided that they overcome the American duo of Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram in their quarterfinal match on Wednesday. Despite being eliminated by Novak Djokovic from the men’s singles tourney, Nadal’s quest for a third Olympic gold medal remains alive as he and his Spanish partner Alcaraz advanced to the last eight following another terrific win over Tallon Griekspoor and Wesley Koolhof of the Netherlands 6-4, 7-6, 10-2. The Spanish tandem landed 95 per cent of their first serves, setting them up to win 57 out of the 94 points they scored in the match. Meanwhile, Krajicek and Ram remain scatheless, heading into a titanic battle with Nadal and Alcaraz, having won their first two matches without dropping a single set. In their 6-4, 7-6 win over the Brazilians, the Americans recorded 80 points, 44 points of which came off their first serves.

Alcaraz and Nadal have so far lived up to their billing as the most accomplished tandem to ever play on the red dirt of Roland Garros. They have already eliminated a seeded tandem in the first round after stunning the No.6 seed Argentine tandem of Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni. As long as Nadal and Alcaraz continue to serve well, they are going to be very difficult to beat even against elite doubles competition.
