There's a blockbuster game in store on Tuesday night, as AC Milan host Liverpool in a repeat of the 20025 and 2007 Champions League finals. Milan recorded an impressive 4-0 win over Venezia at the weekend, but their overall form has been patchy so far this season. 2-2 draws with Lazio and Torino, plus a defeat at Parma means they are ninth in the Serie A standings after four games. After starting the campaign with three wins, Liverpool fell to a disappointing 0-1 defeat at home to Notts Forest at the weekend. AC Milan have big ambitions for the new financial year. In Serie A, the Lombardy club is determined to fight for the title. However, they fell behind from the outset. Worryingly defensively, they started with 2 draws against Torino (2-2) and Lazio Rome (2-2), but also lost to Parma (2-1). The international break seems to have done Paulo Fonseca's team some good. Last weekend, they picked up their 1st win in Serie A, with an easy 4-0 victory over Venezia FC. The best possible preparation before facing Liverpool in the Champions League, then Inter Milan next weekend...
For their part, Liverpool were far more convincing on their league debut. They, too, will be hoping to play well for the Premier League title. They managed to win their first 3 league games. The Reds had little difficulty in defeating Ipswich Town (0-2), Brentford (2-0) and Manchester United (0-3). Arne Slot's men were expected to carry on after the international break against Nottingham Forest. However, in front of their home fans, Alisson Becker's team-mates suffered their 1st defeat of the season (0-1).

For their Champions League opener, AC Milan will be without the injured Marco Sportiello, Alessandro Florenzi and Ismaël Bennacer. Malick Thiaw is highly doubtful, while Davide Calabria is expected to return to action. As a reminder, Luka Jovic is not on the UEFA list and will therefore be unable to play. Paulo Fonseca will be expecting a lot from his key players. He made a bold decision to start Theo Hernandez and Rafael Leao on the bench before the international break against Lazio Rome. They were decisive in their team's 2nd goal, coming on as substitutes. Against Venezia FC last weekend, they shone again. The French full-back scored, while the Portuguese winger provided an assist and won a penalty. Christian Pulisic also arrived with confidence, with 1 goal and 1 assist in his last match.
As for the Reds, Harvey Elliott is still absent. Federico Chiesa has yet to start for Liverpool, as he is not yet fit. Of course, it's Mohamed Salah who will be the one to watch most closely.
