Wyndham Championship 2024
After docking for a week, the PGA Tour ship sets sail once more, this week heading for Greensboro in North Carolina, where the Wyndham Championship will take place at Sedgefield Country Club.
A regular PGA Tour event, the Wyndham Championship is often an opportunity for some of those players who don’t typically feature at the very top of the game to enjoy some time in the golfing sun.
Many big-name players won’t be in attendance at Greensboro, so the chance is there for someone currently ranked below the upper echelons of the game to thrive.
However, it won’t be easy for those not overly familiar with PGA Tour success. They’ll still have to get the better of players such as Sungjae Im, Billy Horschel, Shane Lowry, Justin Rose and Robert MacIntyre, all of whom currently rank inside the top 35.
Before things get underway at Sedgefield Country Club on Thursday, let’s see if we can pinpoint a few viable betting opportunities.
Sungjae Im to win outright: +1600 with FanDuel
Current world number 20, Sungjae Im is difficult to ignore this week. For a player of his caliber, with so many of the big dogs missing, this will absolutely be seen as a gilt-edged opportunity.
A worthy favorite in the early betting, the South Korean could arguably be priced at even shorter odds. In other words, I’m very much of the opinion that he’s worthy of betting on to get the job done, and here’s why:
For starters, the 26-year-old will arrive in Greensboro having played very well of late, finishing T7 at The Open Championship, which followed a T4 at the Scottish Open, which came after T3 and T12 finishes at the Travelers Championship and the John Deere. That level of form should not be ignored.
Moreover, Im has played some fine golf at Sedgefield Country Club in recent seasons, finishing second back in 2022.
Of those players in the field this week to have made at least two previous appearances in the Wyndham Championship, nobody has a better average score than Sungjae Im, who has an 18-hole average of 66.60.
Bet on the PGA Tour with FanDuel
Sungjae Im top 10 finish: +170 with FanDuel
As well as betting on Sungjae Im to scoop the main prize this week, I’ve simply got to bet on him to make his presence felt in the top ten.
Not only did the South Korean finish second at the North Carolina venue in 2022, but he’s now made five appearances in the Wyndham Championship, finishing no lower than 24th, registering three top-ten finishes too.
Thomas Detry top 10 finish: +410 with FanDuel
Another player who’ll head to Greensboro off the back of a decent effort last time out is Thomas Detry, who finished in a tie for ninth at the Olympics last week.
In what was a star-studded line-up, the Belgian, who is now ranked at 57th in the world, more than held his own, and he’s very much the sort of player to try and take advantage of the absence of the big dogs this week.
Detry has delivered a string of steady performances of late, finishing tied for 26th at the Scottish Open before heading to Paris, while he was T14 in the US Open back in June too.
This is also a player more than capable of getting serious in the slightly more low-key PGA Tour events, as he proved when finishing second at the Valspar Championship earlier in the season.
What’s more, Detry played well in his first Wyndham Championship appearance last season, finishing T21. With that under his belt, given his current form, he looks a decent bet to push a little further up the field this time around.

JT Poston top 10 finish: +450 with FanDuel
One final pick ahead of the Wyndham Championship and I’ve got to give a chance to JT Poston, who is a North Carolina native and who has previously enjoyed himself in this event.
Not a regular top-ten finisher, Poston is another of those players capable of featuring in the less high-profile events. The 31-year-old hasn’t been in great form of late, but he won this event back in 2019, while he finished T21 in 2022, before finishing seventh last year.
Having performed well in his home state before, don’t be surprised if the man from Hickory plays his way to a respectable finish at Sedgefield Country Club.
