Sony Open 2025 Best Bets and Outrights
by Bradley Gibbs | by Tyler Doty
After last week’s action at Kapalua Plantation Course, where offensive golf was very much the order of the day at The Sentry, the PGA Tour stays in Hawaii.
A yearly PGA Tour event, the Sony Open returns for the 27th time (in its current form). Some top players have won this event, including major winners Hideki Matsuyama, Cameron Smith, Jimmy Walker, Zach Johnson, Vijay Singh and Ernie Els.
2024 winner Grayson Murray won’t be in attendance at Waialae this week, so we’ll have a new winner, or at least, we won’t have the same winner two years on the spin.
Having won The Sentry last week, Hideki Matsuyama will be looking to go back-to-back in Honolulu, but the Japanese player will certainly have to work hard to do that, with lots of in-form players in attendance.
The scoring last week was wild to say the least, with Matsuyama winning with a final score of -35. Should we expect to see something similar this week? Probably not.
The Sony Open is more about strategy and accuracy, with the course at Waialae Country Club featuring tight landing areas and relatively small tough-to-hit greens.
As is always the case, we’re here to talk about some eye-catching bets ahead of this event, so let's go for it. Oh, and if you're looking for more sports betting picks, check out our main picks page.
Keegan Bradley to win/top 10 finish: +2500 & +250 with DraftKings
World number 12 Keegan Bradley will arrive at Waialae Country Club in solid form having finished in a tie for 15th at The Sentry last week, while he finished fifth at the Hero World Challenge before Christmas.
The one-time major winner has now had his game in good shape for quite some time, finishing T21 at the Tour Championship before two wins (out of three) at the Presidents Cup, while he also won the BMW Championship.
Does the 38-year-old have a game suited to the test this week?
He finished second at this event last year, while he ranks as the fourth-best player in the field for strokes gained: approach across the last couple of months. I like that stat.

Robert MacIntyre to win/top 10 finish: +2800 & +260 with DraftKings
Another player who played well in Hawaii last week is Robert MacIntyre. Bobby Mac has also held his form for a long period, which extends back to July, when he won his second event of the season, landing the prize at the Scottish Open, just a fortnight after winning the Canadian Open.
Arguably playing better golf than he ever has, I’d be rather surprised if the Scotsman failed to improve on last year’s finish of 52nd when debuting at this event.
Like Bradley, he’s performed strongly from a strokes-gained approach point of view recently, ranking ninth in this field for that metric in the last eight weeks. This is very positive given the test ahead this week. He also ranks seventh in the field for strokes gained: total during the same period.
Having found the winning touch in late 2024, don’t be surprised to see MacIntyre move on to bigger at better things, and at the odds available, I’m taking him to have a good week in Honolulu.
Taylor Pendrith to win/top 10 finish: +3500 & +320 with DraftKings
Finishing just ahead of the two players above last week was Taylor Pendrith, who also posted a T10 finish at this event last year. He can now build on that.
Strokes gained: approach is going to be vital at Waialae, so it bodes very well that the American ranks sixth in the field for strokes gained: approach in the last eight weeks.
What’s more, Pendrith ranks third for strokes gained: total in this field across last two months, and if we put this together with the fact that he’s coming off the back of
T13, T19 and T8 finishes, he looks a great bet to both win and finish in the top 10.
