After the Black Desert comes Las Vegas. This week, the PGA train rolls along to the state of Nevada, where the Shriners Children’s Open will take place at the Las Vegas venue of TPC Summerlin. Read on for our best bets ahead of an event that is a regular fixture on the PGA Tour schedule.

Shriners Children's Open 2024

Things are slowly starting to get a little more serious on the PGA Tour. After last week’s relatively low-grade affair in Utah, where only two top-50 players featured, leaving the in-form and rapidly improving Matt McCarty to pick up his third success since August, it’s time for the Shriners Children’s Open, which is a regular PGA Tour event.

In terms of high-ranking players, things aren’t much different this time around. We do have one top-25 player in the field in the form of defending champion Tom Kim, while there will be more than a handful of competitors who’re currently flirting with the top 50 in attendance. Also teeing it up in Vegas this week we have some previous major winners such as Gary Woodland, Francesco Molinari and Webb Simpson.

As always, we’re here to talk about the most appealing outright bets, so let’s dive in and see what we can come up with ahead of the action at TPC Summerlin. Be sure to check out our full list of free picks and predicitons for all of today and tomorrow's matches!

Adam Hadwin top 10 & top 20 finish: +400 and +190 with FanDuel

adam hadwinSince finishing the month of August with a T41 finish at the BMW Championship, Adam Hadwin has had a quiet month or so, but the Canadian will be back in action at TPC Summerlin this week, and he’ll be looking to make a splash.

This is an event that has provided Hadwin with plenty of joy in recent times. Yet to land the main prize, the man from Moose Jaw has posted five top-10 finishes since making his Shriners Children’s Open debut back in 2014, including a second-place finish last season.

Of those in the field this week to have played this event more than twice since 2016, only two players have a better average 18-hole score than Hadwin, while the Canadian ranks as the best player in the field for strokes gained: total.

Make no mistake about it, this is a man who gets on well with TPC Summerlin, so don’t be surprised if he positions himself highly on the leaderboard this week. I certainly won’t be, so much so that I’ve got him to finish in the top 10 and the top 20 at chunky-looking odds of +400 and +190.

Beau Hossler top 20 finish: +150 with FanDuel

beau hossler

Beau Hossler is a player in more than reasonable form right now. Second at the Sanderson Farms Championship at the start of the month, the 29-year-old backed up that excellent effort with a solid performance in Utah last week, where he finished T11.

Hossler has now finished T12 or better in three of his last four events and is definitely the sort of player who can enjoy the absence of the big dogs.

Given what we’ve seen from the Californian in recent weeks, he looks a good bet to finish in the top 20 here, especially as TPC Summerlin is a course where he’s played well before.

T7 in 2017, Hossler again finished T7 in Vegas last year, so he knows how to put in a performance here, ranking as the 12th best player in the field for strokes gained: total at this venue since 2016. Consider this in connection with his recent form and odds of +150 become appealing.

Matt NeSmith top 20 finish: +400 with FanDuel

matt nesmith

Lastly, I’m throwing a few dollars in the direction of Matt NeSmith, who looks a reasonable bet to perform respectably this week.

The American offers little in terms of recent form, but I don’t want to discount him on that basis. After all, TPC Summerlin has been quite a happy hunting ground for the 31-year-old, who disappointed a little at this event last year, but before that he posted four top-20 finishes on the spin, finishing T8 in 2021 and making the runner-up spot in 2023.

NeSmith can definitely tee it up with success in Vegas, make no mistake about that. Of those players in the line-up to have featured more than twice at this tournament, only Hadwin has performed better in terms of strokes gained: total since 2016. I won’t be ignoring that stat.
