Rocket Mortgage Classic Odds: Best Bets & Outright Picks
by Tyler Doty | by Tyler Doty
The 2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit has the fewest top-10 players in the event’s history, but it’s still set to be a fascinating weekend in Detroit. While the Rocket Mortgage Classic is overshadowed by bigger events on the calendar at this time of year, plenty of players in this field have a great deal to play for with FedEx Cup points on the line.
Rickie Fowler, the champion at this event 12 months ago, is priced at +5000 to go back-to-back. Tom Kim and Cameron Young are the two favorites when odds opened at BetMGM and FanDuel.
Some of the world’s best young golfers are taking part this weekend, including Miles Russell, Luke Clanton, Michael Thorbjornsen, and Nick Dunlap.
Let’s take a look at a few of the best bets for the 2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic:
Stephan Jaeger to finish in the top five: +500 with BetMGM
It’s only a few months since Stephan Jaeger beat Scottie Scheffler in Houston. Jaeger has had rough showings at the Masters and Memorial Tournament since then, but he’s had five top-32 finishes over that period.
The German has also shown good form at the US Open and Travelers Championship. His approach game was particularly impressive in his two most recent events, which should work in his favor in Detroit. This course requires precision on approach shots, and there are opportunities to go under par if you can nail the approach.
Jaeger has three top-three finishes to his name this season. While it’s tempting to go for those longer odds, there’s enough talent in this field to make top five the better value bet at +500.
Cam Davis to finish in the top 20: +250 with BetMGM
Australian Cam Davis was the champion at the Rocket Mortgage Classic back in 2021. Davis’ career has meandered since then, plus his results in 2024 are pretty poor across the board.
That can be attributed to the caliber of events he’s competed in, however. Davis had a string of good results last summer, and his around-the-green game has impressed at both the Charles Schwab Challenge and Travelers Championship in recent weeks.
Putting is a concern, following poor performances on the greens at the last two majors. The Aussie can be very competitive this weekend if he gets on a role with his putter, and he’s had some decent putting performances over the last 12 months.
Tom Kim to finish in the top five:+260 with BetMGM
There are no signs of fatigue from Tom Kim despite spending the best part of two months on the road. Only 22 years old, the South Korean continues to look fresh, and he’s currently sitting 16th in the world rankings.
He finished outside the top 25 at the PGA Championship and the US Open. Despite that, Kim’s form is generally very good. He was the runner-up at the Travels Championship, and his underlying metrics are excellent across the board, with exceptional approach play throughout June.
Both of his top-five finishes in 2024 have been recorded this month. We think Kim is well worth backing at this price, and we’d strongly consider taking +1200 on him to win the event with FanDuel.
Cameron Young to be the top North American: +1100 with FanDuel
Number 23 in the world, Cameron Young delivered a scintillating 59 in the third round of the Travelers Championship. Placing joint-ninth was an ideal way to bounce back after a difficult few weeks.
Young is one of the streakier golfers in the top 30 of the world rankings. His putting can be anywhere between poor and superb. His approach play fluctuates massively, too.
The American has made one other appearance at this event, finishing as a runner-up in 2022.
We are tempted by Young at +3500 to lead after the first round with FanDuel. He could be a few shots ahead if he gets anywhere near replicating his third round from the Travelers Championship. Instead, we are taking him to be the top-performing American. This is a great chance for his first title since 2021.
