2024 PGA Championship Betting Odds
After winning the 2024 Masters, world number one Scottie Scheffler is the consensus betting favorite to win the 2024 PGA Championship. Rory McIlroy is the only other player shorter than +1400 with FanDuel and DraftKings, which speaks to Scheffler’s utter dominance over the sport at the moment.
Scheffler is aiming to win the PGA Championship for the first time when he takes to Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville this week after he finished as runner-up to Brooks Koepka in 2023. This is the first time the event has taken place at the Kentucky course since McIlroy’s second Major Championship win in 2014.
This is a long course with plenty of challenging greens. To succeed at this year’s PGA Championship, golfers need to be driving the ball well, nailing their long approach shots, and gaining strokes on par four holes.
Odds to Win: Brooks Koepka to win the 2024 PGA Championship: +1400 with DraftKings & FanDuel
Koepka might have said he was struggling a few weeks ago, but that didn’t stop him recording an LIV Golf win in Singapore. He has twice defended major titles in the past, and will arrive at Valhalla desperate to prove he can go toe-to-toe with Scheffler and an in-form McIlroy.
Previous success at the PGA Championship has been a good predictive factor over the last decade. Koepka might have finished 45th at the 2024 Masters, but he has three PGA Championships to his name, and could have easily won another in 2021.
The disparity between McIlroy’s price and Koepka’s is hard to make sense of. We have repeatedly seen Koepka up his game for the majors, while the same cannot be said of McIlroy, who hasn’t won a major in a decade.
Yes, there’s an argument that this is perfect for McIlroy to end that drought, but why is he +750 when Koepka is +1400? It’s clear where the value lies in the top three.
Xander Schauffele to finish in the Top 10: +140 with DraftKings
Scheffler is the only player with a better average strokes gained than Xander Schauffele over the last 20 rounds. His approach play has been excellent over the last couple of years, and while he hasn’t won an event since the 2022 Scottish Open, he has consistently been in the mix.
In fact, he has been a top-10 finisher in 10 of his last 15 events. Schauffele was runner-up at the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship last time out. His play around the greens has been his only real weakness since the start of 2023, but if his approach work is up to scratch, that shouldn’t hold him back too much at Valhalla.
The PGA Championship has presented some challenges for Schauffele over the years, including failing to make the cut in 2021. He has three top-10 finishes over his last five majors, however, and we like his chances of making that four out of six.
Patrick Cantlay to finish in the Top 10: +350 with FanDuel
There’s no question Patrick Cantlay is talented enough to win a major. Getting over that hill has been a much bigger challenge, however, as Cantlay’s best ever major finish was a third place at the 2019 PGA Championship.
Aside from a joint-third at the Heritage Classic, Cantlay’s recent form is poor. As a result, bettors can get some lengthy prices across various Cantlay markets, including +350 for a top 10 finish at FanDuel.
The accuracy of his driving will be really tested here. He hasn’t been at his best off the tee of late, but the power is there to put in some low scores over the next few days. This is an upside pick on an excellent golfer, who now has plenty of experience at the high-pressured events.
Winning margin of exactly two shots: +350 with DraftKings
Six of the last seven PGA Championships have been won by exactly two shots. Two of the last three at Valhalla have gone to a playoff, and McIlroy won by a single stroke in 2014. You can also bet on a playoff being required at +350 with DraftKings.
On a long course, there are plenty of opportunities to gain or lose strokes. If one of the top players get in rhythm, we could see them build a lead in the first couple of rounds.
Given the recent history of the PGA Championship, there is solid value at this price in 2024. It’s easy to talk yourself into backing a 2024 playoff too, though, as three of the five majors at Valhalla have required an extra hole.
Corey Conners to finish in the Top 20:+280 with FanDuel
With top 13 finishes in his last two events, Corey Conners has a game which suits Valhalla. He can be a bit sloppy at times, and this course will punish that, but he has the power and approach game to put together four strong rounds.
Twice a top-20 finisher in the PGA Championship, Conners has struggled on Sundays at majors in the past. That’s part of the reason for going with top 20 at +280 over a top 10 finish at +700.
If he can do a solid job around the greens and keep putting mistakes to a minimum, Conners is a real dark horse at Valhalla 2024. There is certainly some value at this price, even though he has a single top-20 finish over his last eight majors.
