Medals at the 2024 Olympic Games: Our Predictions

Who will win the most medals? Our experts' opinion
The United States is traditionally the favorite to win the most medals at the Olympic Games. For several editions, team USA have dominated the medal table, thanks to their vast talent pool and massive investment in sports infrastructure and training programs. At the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, the USA won 113 medals, including 39 gold medals, putting them at the top of the overall standings.
For this 2024 edition, the USA should still be very competitive, particularly in basketball, track & field and swimming, where Americans are used to excelling. In other disciplines, the USA is no less brilliant, picking up medals left and right. Whether it's gymnastics, wrestling or shooting, American athletes are often at the forefront. With such versatility and so many internationally renowned athletes, it's hard not to see the USA topping the medal table at the 2024 Olympics.
Our Top 3 medal-winning nations
Given the absence of many Russian athletes in the current climate, it seems almost impossible for Russia to finish on the podium of the top medal-winning nations. As a result, other countries have the opportunity to claim a place on the podium.
Aside from the USA, China seems to be the nation most likely to finish second, while 3rd place remains open. A top 3 finish for France is certainly not out of the question, and Les Bleus should face competition from Japan and the UK at the top of the medal table.
Our Top 3 medal-winning countries are as follows:
- United States
- China
- France
How Many Medals for Team USA?
Basketball, Track & field, volleyball, gymnastics, and swimming are just a few of the sports where the USA has high hopes for medals. With iconic figures like Simone Biles in gymnastics or the Dream Team 2.0 in basketball, American athletes are certainly favorites to take the most medals.
In numerous disciplines, Team USA has the potential to capture gold medals. To recall, the USA finished 1st in the medal table at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, with 113 medals, including 39 gold. With the absence of competition from Russia, the USA could perform even better this year. As the dominant nation in many sports, the USA aims to maintain its leading position and improve its Olympic record.
In Paris, American athletes could shine repeatedly, gathering a significant number of medals. In fact, sportsbooks are offering odds on whether the USA will win more or less than 40.5 gold medals. This high figure compared to the previous edition can be attributed to the reasons mentioned above. American stars are expected to lead the charge and bring home gold medals for the USA!
