Our favorites for the top scorer title of Euro 2024
Predicting the top scorer of a competition like the Euro, World Cup, or Copa America is rarely simple. However, our experts still wanted to join in the analysis game to announce our contenders for this honorary title and the editorial team's favorite. You can also find this analysis in our Euro 2024 prediction, which includes everything you need to know about the competition.
No. 1: Mbappé, an obvious choice
It will be a very eventful summer for Kylian Mbappé! Indeed, the striker and captain of the French National Team, who left Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent to officially join Real Madrid, will play in the Euro before going on vacation and then joining his new club. And the number 10 of the Blues hopes to return from Germany with a new title to his name! Of course, Mbappé aims for the championship, but he will also have the top scorer title in mind.
After a disastrous Euro 2020 where he didn't score a single goal and missed the decisive penalty against Switzerland, he magnificently redeemed himself the following season. He finished as the top scorer of the 2022 World Cup with 8 goals in total, helping Didier Deschamps and his team reach the final.
Notably, for the qualifications of this 2024 European Championship, he scored 9 times in 8 appearances, finishing as the third top scorer behind CR7 (10 goals) and Lukaku (14). For the top scorer title at Euro 2024, Mbappé is our favorite and has odds of +500 at the moment!
No. 2: Kane, continuing his form
As usual, Harry Kane is one of the top favorites for the top scorer title at Euro 2024. And, as always, the English striker is expected to deliver. His transfer from Tottenham to Bayern Munich hasn't changed much for the number 9, who has scored many goals this season despite Bayern's poor performance (their first trophyless season in over 10 years).
Although he wasn't influential enough at the 2022 World Cup (2 goals in 5 matches, including the famous missed second penalty against France), he quickly made up for it by becoming the fourth top scorer in the qualifiers for this Euro 2024, with 8 goals in 8 matches.
In a team that plays very well together and surrounded by many excellent playmakers (Bellingham, Foden, Saka, and Palmer, among others), Harry Kane should thrive during this European Championship, where he could shine right from the group stage in a seemingly manageable Group C (Slovenia, Denmark, and Serbia). Additionally, he has the advantage of taking every penalty for the Three Lions! With attractive odds of +550 for the top scorer title, this is a bet well worth considering.
No. 3: Lukaku, the Belgian almost always delivers
Here he is, the top scorer in the history of Belgium (85 goals in 115 matches). The player trained at Anderlecht, who has played for Chelsea, Everton, Manchester United, Inter Milan, and now AS Roma, has been in good form with his country since the end of the 2022 World Cup. Indeed, although he had a disastrous World Cup (arriving injured, missing the first group matches, and failing to convert numerous chances in the third match against Croatia, preventing his team from reaching the round of 16), he has bounced back well since then. He finished as the top scorer in the Euro 2024 qualifiers with a magnificent ratio of 14 goals in just 8 matches! He led this ranking by a wide margin, with 4 goals ahead of his nearest competitor, showing classic Lukaku form.
Often criticized for being strong against weak teams and weak against strong ones, he will clearly have the opportunity to score in a Group E that includes Slovakia, Romania, and Ukraine. He has excellent odds of +2000, so don't hesitate to take advantage if you want to bet on an "outsider" according to the sportsbooks, who we believe are underestimating him. Even a $10 bet could net you $200!

Top Scorer of the Euro: SportyTrader's Underdogs
After our three favorites for the top scorer title of Euro 2024, here are the underdogs who, in our opinion, can also contend for this individual trophy awarded at the end of the final. We naturally think of Cristiano Ronaldo first, who is likely competing in his last major tournament with his country. While he seems eternal, CR7 is nearing 40 and won't be able to keep up for many more years.
However, at Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, he continues to rack up impressive statistics! With Portugal, he remains a key player in Roberto Martinez's squad. The winner of Euro 2016 is determined to be decisive for his country in this 2024 edition. The second top scorer in the qualifying phase with 10 goals in 9 matches, Ronaldo has shown he still has plenty left in the tank. His odds are +1200 with the sportsbooks!
Similar to Cristiano, Olivier Giroud is nearing the end of his career and will probably retire from international soccer after Euro 2024. This will mark the end of a great era for the former Montpellier, Arsenal, and Chelsea striker, who contributed to the ultimate victory in 2018. Although he didn't score during that World Cup, he did in the most recent one in Qatar, netting 4 goals.
He finished as the third top scorer behind Mbappé and Messi. During the qualifiers for this European Championship, he still managed to score 3 times in 8 matches, despite not always being a starter. Currently, his odds are around +2000 on average at sports betting sites for Euro 2024. At SportyTrader, we have little faith in this outcome, but who knows, it could happen.
Jude Bellingham will also be one of the players to watch during this Euro 2024 Championship. Indeed, he has turned into a goal-scoring machine this year with Real Madrid, having a magnificent season. A true fox in the box with the Madrid club, he has developed a goal-scoring instinct and finishing ability that started to show during his time at Dortmund. In terms of the Ballon d'Or race, finishing as the top scorer of this Euro and winning the trophy would obviously be a significant boost. If you want to bet on Jude, his odds are +1600, currently.
We also consider Álvaro Morata, who, like La Roja, is an underdog not to be underestimated. With huge odds of +3300, if you believe the Atlético player is capable of finishing at the top of the rankings, why not place a small bet on Spain’s striker?
And we finish with the highest odds! Bayer Leverkusen's attacker, Florian Wirtz, who is having a magnificent season under Xabi Alonso, could be the "surprise" of this Euro. Although he is not considered a forward on the field, he has still been finding the net this season with more than 20 goals in all competitions! And we remember his stunning strike against France in a friendly on March 23rd, just seconds after the game started... With odds of +4000, it's clearly worth placing a few coins on the German prodigy!
