Things start to get very serious on the PGA Tour this week. The race for the FedEx Cup enters the home straight. With just two events remaining, the best in the business head to Denver, Colorado for the BMW Championship. See below for our best picks ahead of this tournament.

BMW Championship 2024

The FedEx Cup Playoffs continue following the event at TPC Southwind last week, where Hideki Matsuyama got the job done, leaving him in third position in the race for FedEx Cup glory.

This week, it’s the penultimate event; the BMW Championship, which will be held at Castle Pines Golf Club in Denver, Colorado.

A field of 50 players, including most of the world’s best golfers, will compete for glory in Denver this week. Castle Pines is a luscious and luxurious venue, which has been dubbed ‘Augusta in the mountains’.

The ball typically travels farther at Castle Pines, where the thin air plays a big role. Sitting at an average altitude of around 6,200 feet, the Colorado venue allows most shots to typically travel an extra 10% in terms of distance. In other words, a typical 300-yard drive is likely to go an extra 30 yards, give or take. Players well suited to tinkering with different types of shots and varying their yardages should thrive, especially if their caddies can adapt.

For bettors, finding the winner won’t be easy, that’s for sure, but we’re here to dig deep and see if we can uncover a few bets that offer value for money, so let’s get into it.

Patrick Cantlay to win outright: +2200 with FanDuel

patrick cantlay

Quieter than usual in recent times, Patrick Cantlay hasn’t been a man to sleep on in this event in recent years.

The winner in both 2021 and 2022, Cantlay is no stranger to doing the business when it comes to the BMW Championship, while he played his way into some decent form last week, finishing in a respectable tie for 12th at TPC Southwind.

We know that Cantlay likes this event, so I really wouldn’t be surprised if he turned it on this week. After all, he’s either come out on top or finished second in three of the last five renewals of this tournament, while of those due to be in attendance this week, he’s the proud owner of the lowest average 18-hole score.

I must also add that Cantlay is a player who is a fond of altitude golf. He’s finished in the top two at TPC Summerlin on four occasions, while he’s also finished second in Phoenix before too. Not to be ignored.

Viktor Hovland top 10 finish: +135 with FanDuel

viktor hovland

Another big dog to have quietened down his bark in recent times is Viktor Hovland, but we saw the Norwegian come to life at this venue last season, while he certainly built some momentum last week.

After a poor opening round at TPC Southwind, Hovland got it together and delivered what can probably be classed as his best three rounds of the year, certainly his best three rounds on the spin.

With that under his belt, the former world number three will be looking to kick on and he may just do it. The winner of this event last season, it’s also worth noting that Hovland has only once finished out of top 10 when looking to defend a title, having done so on five previous occasions.

Corey Conners top 10 finish: +210 with FanDuel

corey conners

When it comes to the BMW Championship, Corey Conners is no stranger to finishing in a respectable position. He finished T10 last season, and T5 the year before that, finishing seventh back in 2018 too.

Three top-10 finishes in his last five BMW Championship starts, Conners looks like a decent bet to play well this week, especially having hit the top 10 in four of his last eight events.

Sam Burns top 10 finish: +240 with FanDuel

Sam burns

Last but certainly not least, I’ve got to throw a little financial support in the direction of Sam Burns, who is currently priced around the +240 mark tok make the top 10. For my money, such a price is a little on the generous side.

Only Scottie Scheffler and Patrick Cantlay can boast a lower average 18-hole score at this event than Burns, who has quietly delivered some decent performances in the last three renewals of this high-pressure tournament.

After playing his way back into form at a crucial time with that T5 finish in Tennessee last week, the world number 23 is worth siding with to have another decent week.
