USMNT, Copa America 2024: Odds and Bets to Consider on the United States Team
by Tyler Doty
Competing in their fifth Copa América, and hosting for a second time, the USA are one of the leading contenders to lift the trophy behind Argentina and Brazil. Gregg Berhalter’s team will see this competition as a significant step in their development ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
The USMNT finished fourth in 2016 after knocking out Ecuador and losing to Argentina and Ecuador. A semi-final berth is a realistic prospect again for the Stars and Stripes, and they will be dreaming of going one step further and competing in the final at Hard Rock Stadium. Win The Group
Berhalter’s side are +145 at FanDuel to top Group C. Goal difference was enough for the USA to top Group A in their last Copa América jaunt eight years ago. They are paired with Uruguay, Panama, and Bolivia this time. While the Uruguayans are the favorites to top the section, they clearly have a fighting chance.
Having reached the knockout rounds at three of the last four World Cups and won three consecutive Nations League finals, the USA have enjoyed plenty of success in tournament football. Their Gold Cup record is excellent, too.
Heavily favored in pre-match markets to get the better of both Bolivia and Panama, the question for this market is whether they can overcome Uruguay. While they have disappointed in friendlies against Slovenia and Colombia this year, we think they can go toe-to-toe with this Uruguay team.
To Win All Group Games
DraftKings is offering a price of +450 on the USMNT to win all of their group games. We think this price has serious value with two very favourable opponents in their group. Beating Panama and Bolivia feels like almost a foregone conclusion, leaving the Stars and Stripes to get the better of Uruguay.
Bolivia have the shortest price to lose all of their matches at DraftKings. Panama are +600 in that market. Since reaching the quarters in 2015, Bolivia have lost all 10 of their Copa América matches.
It’s hard to envisage the USA failing to win against Bolivia or Panama (who are +600 to lose all their matches). So if the Stars and Stripes are +145 to win their group, the +450 to win all their group matches has real value.
Pulisic Top Scores
Coming off a season with 12 Serie A goals and with four goals in his last six caps, Christian Pulisic to top score for the USMNT is superb value. Pulisic remains the USA’s standout attacking player, and he’s the only member of the Copa América squad with more than 11 goals at the international level.
The Milan forward is +380 at FanDuel to be his nation’s leading goal scorer this summer, ahead of Haji Wright, Folarin Balogun, and Josh Sargent.
Scorer in the 2021 and 2023 Nations League finals, Pulisic has a record of delivering in the biggest games for his country. On the back of the most prolific club season of his career, we’re backing the former Chelsea man for a big tournament on home soil.
Stage of Elimination
FanDuel expects the USA to fall at the quarterfinals. There’s good reason for that, as Berhalter’s side are on course to face Brazil or Colombia. Defeating Brazil seems unlikely, but they have a puncher’s chance against Colombia, who have only gone beyond the quarters at two of the last six Copa Américas.
After failing to qualify for the 2022 World Cup, Colombia are not at their strongest. Many of their core players are past their respective peaks.
As a result, we’d consider taking the USMNT to fall at the semi-finals at +360. The path is simple – top Group C, beat Colombia, lose to Brazil. That would still be a pretty successful tournament for the hosts.
