2025 Madrid Masters: 5 Tips for the Tournament

1: Achieving the Double, a Perilous Mission for the Title Holders
The Madrid Masters 1000 is still a very young tournament, as it wasn't until 2002 that the event was exported to clay! And in 23 editions played, the Spanish capital hasn't seen many of its winners successfully defend their titles, making our tennis predictions still uncertain!
11 different players have been able to write their names on the list of winners (Andre Agassi, Juan Carlos Ferrero, Marat Safin, Roger Federer, David Nalbandian, Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz and Andrey Rublev) and only 2 of them have managed to retain their title!
Who? The Spanish armada, of course, with Rafael Nadal (2013 and 2014) and then Carlos Alcaraz (2022 and 2023), who made history at the Madrid Masters 1000. These are clay-court references that Andrey Rublev will certainly try to emulate...
2: Carlos Alcaraz, King of Clay
A two-time winner in the Spanish capital in 2022 and 2023, Carlos Alcaraz will be the big favorite for this 2025 edition. While the winter had been full of ups and downs for the world number 3, recent performances have served to remind everyone that he remains the benchmark on clay on the circuit.
Victorious in Monte-Carlo then finalist in Barcelona, the Spanish tennis player showed that he was already in good shape a month before the French Open, where he will have to defend his title, but first of all, he will have to deliver on our Madrid Masters prediction.
Despite falling to world number 6, Holger Rune in the finals in Barcelona, Alcaraz has been in fine form and looks keen to defend his title. On home soil and on his preferred surface, betting against the Spaniard seems like a fool's errand.
3: A Whopping 35 Tie-Breaks Last Year
Clay often offers long matches that require a winner to be found (see below). Last year, 35 tiebreaks were played throughout the Madrid Masters 1000, in 95 matches. A tiebreak occurred in over 36% of matches, a number we expect to see again in this 2025 edition of the tournament.
Last year, fans witnessed often balanced confrontations, which created suspense and surprise outcomes. So don't hesitate to bet on tiebreaks during this 2025 edition!
4: Extended Matches in Madrid
While the previous edition saw many tiebreaks, the matches were generally very even from start to finish. Of the 95 matches played, 57 required a final deciding set to decide the outcome.
These often uncertain confrontations result in showdowns and spectacular action. And for bettors, predicting matches with a high number of games and three rounds could be a good bet!
5: Arthur Fils, the French Surprise in Madrid?
A quarter-finalist in Monte Carlo and then a semi-finalist in Barcelona, Arthur Fils has made a strong start to his preparations for the 2025 French Open. The Frenchman is full of confidence and is gradually seeing his status on the tour change.
Although Fils still has a lot of progress to make, recent performances suggest a very good run for the 14th world player, and betting on 20 year old could be a decent bet to try at the start of the tournament!
