Connor McGregor vs. Logan Paul: the Fight You Didn’t Know You Wanted And May/May Not Get
by Travis Pulver | by Tyler Doty
If you can believe what you see on the internet, there just might be a meg-fight going down in India in 2025 between MMA legend Connor McGregor and YouTube sensation turned boxer turned WWE personality, Logan Paul.
According to reports, each fighter would cash in a $250 million payday, courtesy of the Ambani family (Mukesh Ambani is the ninth richest man in the world with a net worth of $120 billion). The fight would be part of a historic “Visit India” tourist campaign.
McGregor vs. Paul: the Fighters
On the surface, it seems like an insane idea. A YouTube personality/WWE wrestler with four boxing matches under his belt (and just one win) could take the Notorious One? Well, his brother just took on Mike Tyson, and both Paul brothers (and McGregor) have been in the ring with Floyd Mayweather…
Okay, so maybe the idea isn’t too crazy after all. But how do these two guys match up?
Paul is younger, heavier, and has been called a bigger puncher. His style is known as the ‘slippery defense’ or ‘hands down’ style, which means he keeps his left down. It’s risky, but with his background in jiu-jitsu, he may have the agility, speed, and endurance to fight an aging McGregor, who would have to fight at a heavier weight than he’s ever fought at.
McGregor, assuming his boxing style mirrors what he does in the Octagon, likes to keep his distance to land punches and counter his opponents' moves. But that may not be as easy to do against the taller Logan Paul (Paul is 6’2” and McGregor 5’9”).
He keeps a wide karate stance to help him move in and out of range with ease, uses headwork and keeps his guard up to avoid taking hits.
And the Favorite Is…
But who would be the favorite? Would it be McGregor, the more experienced fighter or Paul, the younger and more experienced boxer? Westgate SuperBook, Las Vegas' biggest in person sportsbook, vice president of race and sports John Murray had this to say about the hypothetical fight:
"Paul -200 seems fair. That feels like a decent opening price. There’s no reason to go crazy high because there’s always so much McGregor money in these big fights.”
However, is this fight really happening?
It’s On The Internet So It Must Be True…
When reports recently surfaced claiming the fight was on, it was easy to believe the news. After all, McGregor had tweeted in mid-December that he was in talks to fight Logan Paul in India. So, when reports surfaced claiming just that, the public took them at face value.
However, it appears that the basis for all of the reports on the supposed fight are based on fake reports from a social media account of former TalkSport editor Michael Benson. The account likes to make claims that sound believable and cites sources to back the claims up that are actually false.
But then McGregor retweeted the post with an India flag and heart emoji, a tweet that Paul has liked. Paul has since posted videos of him training to social media, adding fuel to the speculative fire.
Neither fighter, however, has outright stated that the fight has been agreed to and is happening.
Maybe that’s because it isn’t, and they’re just making the most of all the buzz that the speculation has created.
Or maybe it’s because the talks are not done yet (but could be soon). There are also reports that the Ambani family would rather have Jake Paul than Logan (which makes a little more sense since he is the more active fighter between the two Pauls).
