How to bet with online bookmakers?
With so much of our lives now online, it is unsurprising that betting online has become a convenient and quick way to enjoy betting responsibly. In this guide, we will give you a simple step-by-process to follow on how you can start betting with an online bookmaker.
Before we go through the step-by-step guide on how to bet with an online bookmaker, we are assuming that you have already found a bookmaking site and have signed up and deposited into your account. Don’t panic if you haven’t yet as you can follow the link to How to Make Sports Bets for more details on how you can complete this process.
So now, if you have your funded sports betting account, let’s unlock the process of betting with your online bookie!
Step One - Log in
You can’t place a bet until you are logged in to your betting account with your chosen bookmaker! A great tip here is to download a mobile app if one is available for your betting site. This can allow one-click access to the site on your mobile device.
Alternatively, you can use a browser to access the site. A good idea here is to add the site to your bookmarks to save you searching or typing the address each time you want to log in.
You’ll need your username (or email address on some sites) and a password to access your account. However some bookies online also use two-factor authorisation on a mobile device, such as a smartphone, to allow customers access.
Don’t worry too much if you forget your password, you can reset this easily with online bookmakers.
Step Two - Browse your choice of betting markets
Once you are logged into your account, it is now time to find the betting markets you want to bet on. All good online bookmakers will offer an extensive choice of sports (and some non-sporting options) to pursue. You are, of course, free to pick any bet from any market you so wish.
However, some good tips to follow here when browsing markets include:
- Bet on sports and markets that you know well.
- Avoid sports or markets you know nothing or very little about.
- Remember to check the betting options open to you on the bet slip as you add selections to it.
Remember, you can add and delete selections on a bet slip to help you judge if a bet is worth backing, or to edit a bet before placing it.
Step Three - Carefully make your selections
Making selections for a bet is more than just picking which options you like. The best punters will always compile some research to try and help focus in on the selections which are most likely to be winners, and filter out those less likely to win.
For example, if you want to bet on a football match on the both teams to score market, your gut instinct may tell you that Liverpool v Chelsea should be a game packed with goals. However, a little research shows that this fixture has resulted in four goalless draws in recent times and that Liverpool have conceded just two goals in nine games (at the time of writing).
Researching your selections may take time, but it will help you pick the better betting option more often.
Step Four - Decide which type of bet you want to place
Whether you have added a single selection, or multiple selections to your bet slip, you then need to decide what is the most effective bet to place.
For a single selection, a win only bet is very common, except for each way bets on horse racing, or finishing in the places bets on sports with lots of competitors such as golf.
There’s lots of options too for multiple selection bets including accumulator bets, full cover bets, banker bets and suchlike.
All these different bets offer different ways you can win, and different stake levels, so it is a good idea to know what the most suitable bet is for your selections.
Step Five - Select an affordable and responsible stake
We mentioned above that bets with multiple selections can have multiple lines to cover, which increases the value of your total stake. Remember, on these bets with multiple lines, you can reduce your unit stake to ensure the total bet stake is affordable.
Step Six - Place the bet
When you are happy with your selections, bet type and stake, click the button to place the bet! You should get almost instantaneous notice that the bet has been accepted.
Step Seven - Keep an eye on any cash out or edit bet options.
For some bets, especially multiple selection bets, you may have options to Cash Out a bet or even Edit a Bet with some bookmakers. If these are available on your bet, it is well worth keeping a close eye on them while the bet is in progress.
Sometimes it can be more prudent to cash out a bet, or edit it, rather than let it run to completion.
Step Eight - Check the results of your bet
If your bet has run its course and the event has ended, then the bookmaker will confirm the result officially (this usually just takes a few seconds to a few minutes from the end of the sporting event). Then your bet will be confirmed as either a winner or loser.
If you are loser, you don’t receive anything back, but if you are a winner, you should receive your winnings relatively quickly.
Step Nine - Withdraw your winnings or not?
If you have withdrawable winnings from a bet, then your next decision is whether to withdraw them or not. If you won a small amount, you may prefer to keep the funds in your account to use on future bets. However, if you are lucky enough to land a larger win, then you can withdraw some or all of these winnings back to your payment method used to deposit.
It is easy to do this using the Withdrawal section of the banking part of your chosen sports betting site. Just remember, most bookmakers prefer to withdraw back to a payment method previously used to deposit into your account. If that is not possible, then bookmakers usually facilitate a withdrawal via bank transfer.
Withdrawals can take any time from being relatively instant, to around 5-10 working days to be processed, depending on the withdrawal method used.
That is a simple and easy-to-follow process for betting with any online bookmaker! Just remember to gamble safely and responsibly and you can enjoy this engaging hobby for many years!
