Different types of horse racing bets
There are many different types of horse racing bets that can be placed at Bwin. The most popular one is a single bet. This sees you making one selection, for example, Tuesday to win the Epsom Oaks. All you need to do is go to the horse racing section of the site, pick the Epsom meeting and then the Oaks.
The list of runners and their odds will be given. Click on the horse you wish to back and then the bet slip will appear. You can now select your stake, confirm all the details are correct and then place your bet. It would have been a good choice as Tuesday did win that race.
You can decide to back more than one horse. A win double will see you betting on two horses, for example Tuesday to win the Epsom Oaks and Desert Crown to win the Epsom Derby. Again, go to the race card and click on the horse you want to bet. The bet slip will show you how much your bet can win if successful. If it is a win double then both selections have to finish first for you to get a return.
It is possible to place an each-way bet. Doing so is a good idea if you aren’t entirely certain your horse will win. This requires you to make two bets, one for a win and another to be placed (for example, finishing third in a race with at least eight runners). If your selection doesn’t win but comes second or third (even lower if there are a lot of runners in the race), then the win part of the bet is lost but the place bet does give you a return.
You can put as many horses as you wish in an accumulator bet. However, the more you put in a bet, the higher the odds and less chance of you winning, especially if you bet on them all to win. Again, an each-way accumulator gives you a better chance of success but just one unplaced horse wrecks your bet.
It’s best therefore to place a system bet such as a patent or Lucky 15. This will give you a return even if your bet contains a loser. There are plenty of system bets available at Bwin.
The best horse races
While there is a multitude of horse races that are covered at Bwin, only a small percentage see the very best horses taking part. An average day will see a selection of races that take place either over the flat or over fences and hurdles. Horse racing is divided up into several classes and this determines the quality of the horses competing.
For example, in the UK there’s class 1 to 6. Those in Class 6 are not of great quality and lacking in consistency but a winner is a winner so there’s no problem betting on them. Horses will move from one class to another depending on how their career is progressing.
In the UK, the very best events are known as the Classics. These are:
- The 1000 Guineas
- The 2000 Guineas
- The Epsom Oaks
- The Epsom Derby
- The St Leger
These are contested by the very best three-year-olds and run over distances ranging from a mile to a mile and six furlongs. During the rest of the year there will be plenty of other Group 1,2 and 3 races as well as Listed Races which are just a little bit further down the list but always with some top horses taking part.
Bwin also features top races from countries such as France, the USA, Australia and South Africa. This means there is coverage taking place at all hours of the day.
Horse racing is a great sport to bet on. You will see plenty of information on the site and offers too such as the best odds guaranteed. Make sure you do some research before placing bets.
