The Peru Liga 1, or Primera Division, is one of the oldest leagues in CONMEBOL, founded back in 1912. The league boasts a healthy representation of 18 teams, who also compete in the domestic Copa de la Liga Peruana each season. Top teams can also qualify for the two major South American international club competitions the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana.

The Liga 1 season in Peru is split into three parts. The Apertura, sees the teams play each other once (17 games). This is then followed by the Clausura, which sees the teams play the 17 reverse fixtures from the Apertura. The winners of the Apertura and Clausura qualify for the playoffs, as do the two teams with the best record in the aggregate table at the end of the season.

The playoffs see two two-legged semi-finals followed by a two-legged final. If the teams draw on aggregate in the final a third and final deciding match is played to decide the national champions. You can follow the entire season from start to finish on the Yesterday Liga 1 pages at SportyTrader, allowing you to keep up to date with teams such as Alianza Lima, Universitario and Melgar.
