After a thrilling five-set contest against unseeded Swede Elias Ymer, British Number 1 Jack Draper will face fellow compatriot Cam Norrie at the Wimbledon second round. Can Norrie extend his winning form by crashing Draper in the second round of the 2024 Wimbledon tournament?

The third round of the 2024 Wimbledon championship promises to feature a British player, as 28th seed Jack Draper will face fellow Briton Cameron Norrie in the second round. Draper and Norrie will battle it out to decide who will face Marcos Giron or fourth seed Alexander Zverev in the third round.

Over the last year, there have several changes in British tennis and that will be evident at Wimbledon. Draper managed to recover from his injuries and has risen up in rankings over the last few months. The British No 1 started his Wimbledon campaign with a first-round victory against Elias Ymer, taking him up to 26th in the rankings. That’s 14 places above his opponent who was the former British No 1.

While Draper won his Tuesday match against Ymer, it wasn’t an easy fight. He lost the first set to the Swede and had to play five sets to secure the victory. Earlier this summer, Draper claimed the BOSS Open tournament on grass and thrashed Carlos Alcaraz in the process.

Meanwhile, Cameron Norrie ranked 12th at the 2023 Wimbledon tournament and exited the tournament in the second round. Norrie has been falling in ranking since then, despite reaching the Grand Slam semi-finals on grass two years ago. The British number 2 has only reached one final on grass court, but he recorded a straight sets win over Facundo Diaz in the first round of this tournament.

Draper-Norrie

Draper vs Cameron key stats

  • Jack Draper had to play five sets to book his first-round victory.
  • Over 3.5 tennis sets have been recorded in Draper’s last six Grand Slam matches.
  • Norrie has played over 3.5 sets in four out of his last five Grand Slam fixtures.
  • Three out of the last four matches featuring Draper at Wimbledon has recorded over 3. Sets.
  • Only one of Cameron Norrie’s last five games at Wimbledon hasn’t recorded at least four sets.

Can Cameron Norrie extend his winning record against Draper?

Looking at the bookmakers’ odds, Jack Draper ranks as the favorite against Cameron Norrie. However, we’re tipping this second-round match at Wimbledon will last over 3.5 sets considering how these two Britons have played in the past.

Draper and Norrie have previously gone against each other two times, with Norrie claiming victory in both cases. However, the two British players last met two years ago and the tides of British tennis have changed since then, with Draper currently ranking as the country’s number 1.

While British tennis has significantly changed over the last two years, this might be a close match for the two. Norrie heads into this match bolstered by the confidence of the first-round win,  but he might need more effort to avoid his first loss against Draper.
