8 Sensational Saves
1 -The Wall - Neuer
- Arsenal vs Bayern (2-0) 20.10.15 - Group F
Theo Walcott’s header was anything but perfect. Ramsey raised his arms and begins to celebrate the opening goal for the Gunners, as did almost all of Emirates. Except that the ball never crossed the line, leaving Walcott flabbergasted. This magical Champions League evening, the Bavarian proved why he is the best in the world. One of the best saves of the century, but it was Arsenal who stole the points at the end.
2 -Super Gigi
- Man City vs Juventus (1-2) 15.09.15 - Group D
One says good wine improves with time, the same goes for Juve’s keeper Gigi! A great example of some fine goalkeeping this year at the Etihad Stadium, this historical save for the Old Lady which literally sickened the Citizens. Without Chiellini’s own goal header, City probably wouldn’t have even found the back of the net. At 37 years, Gigi always faithful to the post. Respect!
3 -San Iker
- Dynamo Kiev vs Porto (2-2) 06.09.2015 - Group G
He ended his special relationship with Madrid to join the Portuguese Dragons. Now leads the Goalkeeper table with a clean-sheet - 51 saves in the Champions League and continues his already brilliant path. Legendary Iker offers us nothing but impressive saves!
4 – The Great Ter Stegen
- Bayer Leverkusen vs Barcelona (1-1) 10.12.15 - Group E
The last game in Group E, Bayer must dominate Barca already assured top spot and must guarantee their place in the last 16. The German’s tried everything but it was Ter Stegen’s incredible save that defended their unbeaten record. With 8 outstanding saves, the goalkeeper is on course to out-do himself. ( see the sublime double save against Bayern ) to award this as the best save of the season in the champions league .
5 – David de Gea – The Cat
- CSKA Moscow vs Man United (1-1) 21.10.15 – Group B
He was supposed to join Real this summer but actually staying at Manchester might not have been that bad after all. Currently on incredible form with his national team Spain, this is a remarkable opportunity for the young player with unquestionable agility and his performance reminds everyone that games can be won on both sides of the field.
6 - Julio Cesar
- Atletico Madrid vs Benfica (1-1) 30.09.15 - Group C
As Casillas, Julio Cesar has found his reflexes in Portugal with Benfica. If Benfica managed to stun Atlético for the first time since 2009 at Vicente Calderon in the Champions League, it was goalie Julio’s double save that overturned the final result .
7 - Szczęsny - Sauveur
- Roma vs BATE Borisov (0-0) 09.12.15 - Group C
Playing for about 70 minutes and Roma never stop stumbling over the Belarusian’s block. Both teams were battling for a place in the round of 16, Pjanic and his teammates need a draw to get through and BATE a win to guarantee their place. But it was Szczesny’s decisive 20 million euro save that was enough to earn progression.
8 – Top keeper - Matz Sels
- A A Gent vs Lyon (1-1) 16.09.15 - Group H
It was only the opening day but it was decisive for the Gantoise team, a worthily side representing the Belgium side who qualified for the knockout stages. Despite being 10 against 11 for almost an hour, Lyon were handed a golden penalty at the last minute. It was the perfect ending for Lyon, except for the fact that Sels one handed save ended a dramatic game in a draw. The young Belgian goalkeeper, impressive throughout the group stages, perfectly relaxed snatched Alex Lacazette’s moment. Filmed from the stands, sublime!
