The Turin Masters is the last major event of the 2024 men's tennis season. Held from 10 to 17 November in Turin, the tournament brings together the 8 best players of the year in the Race rankings to find out who will succeed two-time title-holder Novak Djokovic. While Italy's Jannik Sinner has already secured the world number one spot, the order of the top 3 between Alexander Zverev and Carlos Alcaraz has yet to be decided, as have certain positions in the top 8, which could still change depending on the results in Piedmont. What are the stakes in the ATP Finals 2024? Read all about it in our article!

Turin Masters: Jannik Sinner assured of top spot at the end of the 2024 season

Jannik Sinner has had a very successful 2024 season! And he's the big favourite in our ATP Finals prediction. Rid of the physical problems that held him back in his early years on the circuit, the Italian has finally been able to let his tennis shine without his body acting up.

Winner of the Australian Open at the start of the season, his first career Grand Slam, the transalpine tennis player built on this title during the first few months of the year, winning 25 of the first 26 matches. On the throne from 10 June, Jannik Sinner never relinquished it, winning 7 tournaments over the season, most recently the US Open in New York.

Also winner of the Shanghai Masters 1000 last month, Jannik Sinner will be the favourite going into the Turin Masters, which he will play in front of his tifosi at the Pala Aplitour, without the pressure of having to fight to keep his place at the top of world tennis.

Zverev vs Alcaraz: who will be Jannik Sinner's runner-up?

Zverev vs Alcaraz - ATP Finals 2024

Behind Jannik Sinner, the top 3 has yet to be decided. Second at the start of these ATP Finals 2024, Alexander Zverev will be in a good position to finish runner-up to the Italian in the ATP rankings. With a lead of more than 500 points over the Spaniard, the German will have a small cushion to maintain his place in the rankings.

But with the 1,500 promised to the winner in the event of a clean sweep of the tournament (1,300 minimum points awarded to the future winner), Alexander Zverev will have to reach the final in order to secure his place behind the Italian. Winner of the Paris Bercy Masters 1000 a few days ago, the German arrives in Italy in fine form and is determined to go all the way in the Alps, a tournament he has won twice before.

Second place will therefore be at stake in a battle between Zverev and Alcaraz.

The draw has placed his opponent for 2nd place in the ATP rankings, Carlos Alcaraz, in the same group. The Spaniard will most likely have to win the tournament to give himself the best chance of trying to topple the German.

Winner of Roland Garros and Wimbledon this season, the world number 3 seemed to be less physically fit at the Paris Bercy Masters 1000, with an elimination in the last 16 in the French capital. But after a fine Asian tour in October (victory in Beijing), Carlos Alcaraz can still believe in his chances, provided he sees his opponent slip up before the final.

What are the possible scenarios for second place?

One thing is certain: Alexander Zverev's fate is in his own hands if he is to retain second place. With a 505-point lead over Carlos Alcaraz, qualification for the final will guarantee the German 2nd place in the ATP rankings for 2024. But if Alexander Zverev fails to reach that stage, he will be at the Spaniard's mercy!

A victory for the Iberian tennis player at the Turin Masters, combined with a defeat for the German before the final, would allow the two-time Grand Slam winner this season to reclaim his place as runner-up in the ATP rankings.

An Alexander Zverev victory in a group stage match against the Spaniard, Casper Ruud or Andrey Rublev will force Carlos Alcaraz to reach at least the final of these ATP Finals.

The scenarios may differ, but it will nevertheless be necessary to see a Carlos Alcaraz present on Sunday 17 November for the final at the Pala Aplitour!

Turin Masters 2024: what else is at stake?

Fritz vs Ruud - ATP Finals 2024

For the first time since 2001, no member of the famous Big Three (Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic) will be present at these ATP Finals 2024. The Serb has withdrawn from this final event of the season through injury, and will lose the points he won last season.

As a result, the Olympic champion will be in danger of staying in the ATP top 8 with a view to the next Australian Open if certain players such as Casper Ruud and Alex De Minaur, who will be taking part for the first time, perform well.

Among the final stakes, the spots between 5th and 9th in the world rankings have yet to be decided between Taylor Fritz, Casper Ruud, Alex De Minaur and Andrey Rublev, depending on the results of the first round direct confrontations.
