How much should you stake on your sports bets?

Calculate your stake
Your stake can be calculated according to two criteria:
Estimated profitability
This is the differential between your estimated odds and the odds given by the bookmaker. The greater the difference, the better value and therefore more profitable the bet will seem in the long term. This parameter will influence the size of the stake.
The odds
As a general rule, it is quite rare to estimate odds that are much higher than the bookmaker’s odds. If they are equal or slightly higher (from 1 to 15%), always follow the rule of wagering exactly the same amount.
Each punter can define his or her rules according to his or her personality. You must, however, maintain a certain logic to your calculations. Here are some tips.
- Never wager more than 10 to 12% of you capital on a single bet. As a general rule and for good long-term management, your average wager per bet should be between 1.5 and 2% of your capital.
- Try to remain reasonably consistent. During a good run, do not significantly increase your stakes. If you have a bad run, keep a cool head and manage matters calmly.
- Never regret your bets. If your bets have been thoroughly analysed and correctly estimated, they will be profitable in the long term.
- Accept variations. Certain periods are very poor, while others are exceptional. Do not focus exclusively on the result.
If, despite everything, you don’t manage to win over a long period, be prepared to call yourself into question. A punter that judges his or her performances with a clear eye is already a good punter.
