An alternative XI
We're not trying to offer you the same XI as the Ballon d'Or or the FIFA Best XI. We're offering you an alternative XI, based not just on the names or media influence of the players, but on concrete analyses and objective criteria: statistical performance, impact in key moments, consistency and overall influence.
While there are of course some obvious names and players who stand out this year, some names may surprise you. That's precisely the aim of this XI: to open up the debate based on reliable, well-researched expertise.
Our choices for each position are carefully thought out, considering each of the aforementioned factors. We'll start, of course, with the goalkeeper. In a year in which none of the current star GKs stood out from the crowd, our choice may be seen as controversial (it generated a lot of reaction amongst our editors!). But as you will see, our choice for number 1 deserves his place in our team, and we explain why in our video.
The selection of our back line was more straightforward. A legend, a key figure, and a young leader make up a 3-man defence that combines charisma, physicality and speed! A striker’s nightmare!
The midfield should also convince football fans. A solid blend of experience, youth, leadership, technique, and a little bit of recklessness! The perfect recipe for a golden quartet!
We'll finish with a spectacular and... surprising forward line! No Harry Kane? No Kylian Mbappé? What about Erling Haaland? No room for the Norwegian. Surprising, given the dominance shown by these three over recent seasons. Our attack combines goals, technique, and speed. The ideal mix for an unstoppable front line? We think so.
