Servette-Basle: a duel at the top of the Swiss Super League!

There's no shortage of football to get your football predictions right over the next few days! While the main leagues with which you are all familiar continue, we head to Switzerland this weekend for an unexpected clash that is full of promise: Servette FC welcome FC Basel to the Stade de Genève. It's a chance to (re)discover the Swiss Super League, which deserves a closer look because the stakes are so high.

Servette, a club to watch out for

Servette - Super League

Servette, who finished fourth in the last championship, are now one of the rising stars of Swiss football. Servette play an interesting game under Thomas Häberli, with key players such as Dereck Kutesa, the league's top scorer with 11 goals. There is also Enzo Crivelli, well known from his years in Ligue 1.

The Servette coach knows Basel pretty well, having played a few games there as a player, but he has also managed the youth team and was even assistant coach of the main team a few years ago.

It's no surprise to see the Geneva club in such a good position. 3rd last season, and 2nd at the end of the 2022/2023 season, Servette even played against a European giant, namely Chelsea, at the start of the season, as part of their Conference League qualification. Far from being a laughing stock, Servette lost 3-2 on aggregate, and above all proved that their fans can be boiling hot in this kind of encounter, which is likely to be the case against Basel too.

Basel can breathe at last!

Over the last few seasons, FC Basel have been struggling for form, finishing 9th last season and 5th for the 2022/2023 season. Once dominant, the club has rediscovered its greatness this season, with a solid defence and a highly effective attack. The results have finally reassured their loyal fans.

FC Basel, who are therefore not taking part in any European cups this season, can concentrate fully on the league. Leading the Super League by 2 points from second-placed Lugano and 7 points ahead of Servette, Basel have won 12 games, drawn four and lost six. The goal difference is simply incredible, at +26, far ahead of Lugano (+7) or Servette (+2).

One man has a lot to do with these results: Xherdan Shaqiri! The Swiss striker has returned to his roots with his parent club this season. With 8 goals and 11 assists to his name, he is clearly the team's key player. He has a habit of providing good service to his striker Kevin, who has found the net 8 times in the league this season.

Did you know that?

Basel - Super League

The first leg had been extremely close. Tied until the 90th minute (1-1), it was once again Shaqiri who delivered his team, scoring 2 goals in added time! The final score was 3-1, and the Swiss was delighted with the result, scoring a hat-trick for his team. We should once again see the team's main asset in action for this second leg.

Great odds to try: Over 3.5 @6.30

To make this challenge even more exciting, here is an interesting bet to try: Over 3.5 goals. With an odds of 2.50, this could be a bet worth trying!

That's why this bet makes sense: In 5 of the last 7 matches between Servette and Basel, there has been at least one Over 3.5, and the last two games have been particularly exciting, always in Basel's favour:

  • 12 November 2023: Servette 4-1 Basel.
  • 11 August 2024: Servette 0-6 Basel.

Historically, meetings between these two teams have seen an average of 4.2 goals per match. In a match that promises to be intense and hard-fought, with a history of goal-rich encounters, an Over 3.5 is a bet that could prove to be a winner.
