Royal Ascot 2015

Solow, Starting with a Bang

On Tuesday 16th June, we go into the heart of this event with Coventry Stakes race, in Group two for 2 year olds, over 1200 meters. It’s an opportunity to seek out some of the future stars and we might see some of these "babies gallopers" again in August at Deauville in "our" Prix Morny.. and other sprinters, aged 3 and above, will compete on the same day on the 1000 meters of the King's Stand Stakes (Group 1) and is the feature of Day 1, it is one of the biggest betting meeting every year...

The attraction of this first day will be the French galloper Solow, favorite for the Queen Anne Stakes,in Group 1 in 4 years and over 1600 meters which honors Queen Anne, founder of Champ Racing Ascot in 1711. Solow triumphed in late March in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and is the winner of the Grey Gatsby and also went on to beat Gailo Chop, Sparkling Beam and Cirrus Des Aigles in the Prix d'Ispahan on May 24 at Longchamp… he is the undisputed favorite for the Queen Anne Stakes and odds for a single win are at 6/4. Try your luck with !

Also on Tuesday, the he St James's Palace Stakes (Group 1), 1 mile round but reserved for 3 year old thoroughbreds. The formidable Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien is responsible Gleneagles, who could face the champion Andre Fabre Make Believe, winner of the Poule d'Essai des Poulains (Gr.1) by 3 lengths ahead in May at Longchamp… Both should finish in the top 3 with odds backed at 11/5.

Wednesday, we move onto the 2,000 meters and will follow with interest the Prince of Wales Stakes, Group I with a prize fund in the region of about half a million pounds of offer. Third and Fourth Champion Stakes in 2014 on the same course, Free Eagle and Western Hymn could well be among the main contenders for victory alongside The Grey Gatsby, the beautiful gray horse that had triumphed in the Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly last year. Ectot (Prix Niel 2014) is also on the entry list.

Thursday: The Gold Cup, Highlight of Royal Ascot

Thursday, we turn to the Mythical Gold Cup! Who will triumph at the end of the 4000 meters in a highly coveted Group 1? It’s one of the highlights of the event being Ladies Day! As the winner of the British Champions Long Distance Cup (Group two) on October 18th on 3200 meters Ascot the "Weld" is the bookie favorite at 3.50 for a win. But surprises are possible and Bathyron or Tac Boistron, both well known in France, will probably try their luck...

On Day 4 we see the best of the British in the Coronation Stakes. Indeed, Ervedya will put her powers to the test for the first time in group one for the 3 years old fillies over 1 Mile. Winner of the French during the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches in May at Longchamp, Jean-Claude Rouget has the highest ambitions for her in this £375,000 prize race. Her odds are 5.20 and place at 1.70 with !
