4 meetings and only 1 win
The 2012-2013 season saw Jürgen Klopp’s Dortmund and Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid play four times. The first, on 24 October 2012. On that occasion, on the 3rd day of the Champions League, Madrid were defeated 2-1 at the home stadium of Dortmund, Westfalenstadion, when Lewandowski put on a master class performance. This was the first victory for the German coach over his Portuguese counterpart. When they next met in the Bernabeu, Klopp managed to leave Spain with a point after a tie following a lively encounter and sealed that game with two of the best goals you’ll see anywhere.
Both teams qualified for the next round, they both made little work of their opponents to finally end up in the final stages of the prestigious Champions League. They met in a semi-final, a semi-final which will be remembered forever. A breathtaking pace, a historical scenario. A worthy meeting of the event. That day, Jürgen Klopp and Mourinho were in a trance but it was Robert Lewandowski who was the hero of the evening. The Pole scored four legendary goals and alone he booked Dortmund’s place in the final of the Champions League despite them suffering defeat in the return leg in Spain (0-2). This happens to be the only victory Mourinho has over Klopp, who is now the new United coach.
A bitter tasting reunion for José Mourinho
30 months later, the two men meet in the Premier League on the respective benches of Liverpool and Man United. A 3-1 win for Liverpool is required, to confirm the domination of the former coach of BVB over Mourinho. For the fourth time in five games, will it be the German who will take advantage? Despite Mourinho’s impressive record including two Champions League titles, the 'Special One' seems to have difficulty beating his rival. Tune in on Monday to see the clash between Liverpool and Manchester United and find out who wins!
