India National Games 2025 In Full Swing

More than 10,000 athletes, coaches and sports officials spanning 37 teams from across India arrived in Uttarakhand for a chance to compete for a coveted medal at the 2025 National Games, and we have already seen several incredible performances from some of the country’s top athletes over the past week.

The 2025 National Games is made up of 32 core sports, including traditional Olympic events such as athletics, badminton and table tennis, along with primarily Indian disciplines like Kabaddi, Yogasana, Kalaripayattu and Mallakhamb, each highlighting the country’s rich sports heritage and cultural diversity in athletics.

The preliminary rounds for several events at the National Games of India are already underway, while qualification rounds for other sports are still in progress. Results for the remaining events are set to be streaming in over the next few days, but as things stand, Karnataka have built up a solid lead in the medals table, now on 53 in total, 13 more than the Services Sports Control Board.

Karnataka took the lead in the standings by bagging an incredible 20 medals, including gold for Vidit Shivshankar J B in the Men’s 100m Breaststroke with a time of 1:03.97. The Southwest Indian state’s medal tally includes 28 gold, 12 silver and 13 bronze. To date, 25 teams have won at least one gold medal, while Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand and Mizoram are the only four states yet to win gold in the competition.

Third place is currently held down by Maharashtra with 16 gold, 33 silver and 27 bronze. Tamil Nadu, Manipur and Madhya Pradesh have each claimed 11 gold in fourth to sixth place respectively, while Kerala (8 gold), Haryana (7 gold), Delhi (7 gold) and Punjab (6 gold) occupy seventh through 10. Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan are also on six gold medals apiece but have won fewer silvers than Punjab.

However, there is still plenty of time for things to change on the leaderboard, particularly for team Assam, who have Olympic medallist boxer Lovlina Borgohain set to feature in the semi-final of the 75kg category after a commanding 5-0 victory against her opponent from Uttarakhand on Tuesday. Assam men’s football team are also in the semi-final of the football competition.
