Football: who will be champion in Europe's top 5 leagues?

Premier League: Liverpool within touching distance of history
While our Premier League prediction was that Manchester City would be the team to beat at the start of the season, the Merseyside club are going through a very complicated 2024-2025 campaign, and nobody expected them to perform so disappointingly. Even though they have yet to qualify for the Champions League, Pep Guardiola and his men will have to fight until the very end.
For many months, it has been a two-way battle between Arsenal and Liverpool. And as the weeks went by, it was the Reds from the Mersey who came out on top, taking a lead that is now considered impossible for the Gunners to make up.
Currently 11 points clear at the top of the table (with only 7 games left and 21 points to play for), Liverpool are almost certain to win their 20th English league title. The two teams meet on Matchday 36, and Arteta is still believing...
If they win, the Reds would join their arch-rivals Manchester United at the top of the English Premier League table, and the debate over who is the country's biggest club would only get bigger!
La Liga: Spanish giants duel as usual
Off to Spain! Since the start of the season, our La Liga prediction has been that Real had the ability and the squad to win a second consecutive league title (something they very rarely do), but in recent weeks the trend has changed.
The facts are simple: 8 games to go and 4 points behind Barcelona... The Clasico on Matchday 35 in mid-May will probably be worth a lot of money, and the team that wins that clash will take a big step towards the title... if Real haven't lost it by then!
The Merengues are having a tough time of it this week, and the lack of results is starting to worry their fans. In fact, Barça seem to be the frontrunners at the moment.
Bundesliga: back to normal for Bavarians
Last year, there was an earthquake in Germany as Bayern Munich failed to finish as Bundesliga champions. After the Bavarians had dominated since the early 2010s, it was Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen, who had an exceptional season and finished unbeaten, who lifted the trophy.
It was the 11th year in a row that Bayern had won the Bundesliga. Joshua Kimmich and his team-mates were determined to set the record straight for the 2024-2025 season, and that should soon be the case.
At the start of the season, our Bundesliga prediction was that there would be no second consecutive disappointment for the Bavarians, who currently lead the league by 6 points from their nearest pursuers, reigning champions Bayer.
It therefore seems only a matter of time before Bayern Munich's 34th Bundesliga title becomes official.
Serie A: tight battle between Inter Milan and Napoli
If there's one thing our Serie A prediction and the bookmakers agree on, it's that Inter Milan will finish as Italian champions this year. The Nerazzurri seem to be the big favourites at the moment.
However, where we differ is that it won't be as straightforward as the odds suggest, and we reckon Napoli could pose Simone Inzaghi's men a little more of a problem than that.
Currently second from bottom by just 3 points, the Neapolitans have not yet said their last word, even if they have been less buoyant in recent weeks than they were at the start of the season, and results have suffered slightly as a result.
Still involved in the Champions League, where they are in a good position to qualify for the semi-finals (1-2 win over Bayern in Germany), Inter are sure to lose some of their feathers, and also have a far from easy schedule in Serie A (Bologna, AS Roma, Lazio, etc.)!
Ligue 1: PSG already officially champions
It's official: Paris Saint-Germain didn't have to wait long this season to be crowned champions of France, as we were expecting in our Ligue 1 prediction. The capital club won their 13th league title with a 1-0 victory over Angers last weekend. With 74 points on the board and still unbeaten (23 wins and 5 draws), Luis Enrique's side have a 22-point lead over second-placed OM, with only 6 games left to play (and therefore 18 points to play for).
On the other hand, the race is fierce for the teams finishing on the podium and, more broadly, in the top 4, with many of the contenders just a few points behind. It promises to be a thrilling end to the season.
Coming back to the reigning champions, Paris were overwhelming favourites with the sports betting sites at the start of the season, and have lived up perfectly to the expectations of the latter and the many observers of the French league. The main objective now will be to finish unbeaten, as well as winning the Coupe de France and going in search of the first Champions League in the club's history.
