More trouble awaits Manchester City as Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United take the war to the Etihad
by Constance Rigot | by Constance Rigot
After crashing out of the Champions League in March, Manchester City went on to make it a double-tumble last weekend after getting knocked out of the FA Cup semifinals by Arsenal, who came from a goal down to win 2-1 thanks to an extra time goal. To save face, Pep Guardiola needs to perform exceptionally well in the remaining league matches, and a win in the Manchester Derby will set them well on their way to image redemption. United are one point away from the top four and will be riding on their three-match winning streak to push for a victory at the Etihad. United lost 1-2 in the first leg, but they redeemed themselves with a 1-0 over the Citizens in the League Cup.
Manchester City vs Manchester United: Betting Tips
In general, the Red Devils have a better record against City, winning 72 of the 173 matches the teams have played against each other. In comparison, City have won 50, while 51 of the matches ended in draws. United are determined to break into the top pack and with Manchester City’s backline being wobbly, there is a good chance that the home side will collapse under a perfect attack force comprising youngsters Antony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard.

Ander Herrera is shaping up to be Manchester United’s favorite goal-poacher and if Guardiola does not work out a great strategy for dealing with him, the Light Blues will crumble under his prowess. The Spanish midfielder put up a great show in their 2-0 win against Burnley on Sunday and is expected to put his best foot forward in the derby.

United are strong on the road as City are at the Etihad and, therefore, Guardiola should not just place his hopes on a home advantage as the day can end in great disappointment. A win in the Manchester Derby always comes with great bragging points and Mourinho will not hesitate to go for the top honours. United have a healthy squad, and although City has some fine players too, there is a great chance that the visitors will be overbearing throughout the match.

Derbies always come with their own thrills and there is a great chance that this match will witness several goals as the visitors strive to upset the defeat they suffered at home in the first leg, and as the hosts work to prove that they still have the winning prowess in them. More than 64 per cent of City’s have ended in over 2.5 goals and this derby might not be an exception. United hope to break into the top four, effectively dislodging City from the last Champions League slot, and they will be out to do it in style, scoring as many goals as possible.
