Just Why this bet should be a Winner

  • Bayern Munich v Benfica – Over 2.5 goals to be scored

Bayern Munich so nearly didn’t make it through to the quarter finals having to go to extra time to beat Juventus. That game ended 2-2 after 90 minutes and was the fourth game in a row at Munich this season in the Champions League to have more than 2.5 goals scored. In fact, every game this season has had more than 3.5 goals scored but I think over 2.5 is the safer option here. Munich’s three group games saw them win 5-1, 5-0 and 4-0 before that 2-2 draw with Juventus. Benfica beat Zenit St Petersburg to qualify for the quarter finals but their away record isn’t that great. They did manage a 2-1 win at Atletico Madrid in the group stages but apart from that they drew in Astana and lost to Galatasary. All three of their away group matches had more than 2.5 goals scored. I think this one will too but with Munich scoring most of them.

  • Barcelona v Atletico Madrid – Barcelona to win

An all-Spanish clash in the last eight looked likely as three of the quarter finalists come from that nation. Barcelona are holders and favourites to win again but won’t find this easy. Nevertheless, I expect them to get through against the side second in La Liga but nine points behind table-toppers Barcelona. The home side are on this amazing unbeaten run and haven’t lost a game since last October. So far in the Champions League this season they have won all their four home matches scoring 14 and conceding just three. They were held to a draw at Villarreal recently, that ended a run of nine straight wins in all competitions scoring 33 goals. They have already played Atletico twice in La Liga this season winning both games 2-1. Atletico suffered a 2-1 defeat at Gijon in their last game all but ending their already slim title hopes. That was their fourth away league defeat of the season. Barcelona have won their last eight home games against Atletico and can make it nine here.
