Just as the northern lights dance across the Canadian sky, Les Rouges will look to light up the 2024 Copa America when they debut in the competition this year, carrying hopes as high as the Rockies.

Canada To Make History in Copa America Debut?

Canada1

Few can forget Alphonso Davies’ leaping header to register Canada’s first-ever goal in a FIFA World Cup against Croatia in Qatar 2022. That historical moment propelled Canada into the spotlight on the world stage, and while their World Cup hopes ended in disappointment, qualifying for Copa America 2024 immediately after that is a clear illustration of the progress The Reds have made in recent years.

Canada booked their ticket to Copa America 2024 in fairly dramatic circumstances. After losing a 4-4 aggregate scoreline on away goals to Jamaica in the CONCACAF Nations League, they found themselves in a crunch playoff final against Trinidad and Tobago and rose to the challenge, securing a 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Cyle Larin and Jacob Shaffelburg.

On paper, Canada may not necessarily look like the strongest team in Group A, but with a new manager at the helm and a core made up of players who apply their trade at some of the best football clubs in the world, they could easily emerge as the dark horse at the 2024 Copa America.

Jesse Marsch to Lead a New Era in Canadian Football

Canada3

The addition of Jesse Marsch as Canada’s national team manager marked a fresh start for The Reds. The former Leeds United and RB Leipzig boss brings a combination of experience and variety to the national team, and his arrival has created genuine optimism from Canadian fans as they head into their inaugural Copa America tournament.

Following the retirement of long-serving captain Atiba Hutchinson last year, Marsch named 23-year-old Davies as the skipper for this tournament, backed up by the experienced Porto midfielder Stephen Eustaquio as vice-captain.

Canada have been drawn into Group A, which features World Cup and Copa America champions Argentina, led by the legendary Lionel Messi, who will be going for glory at all costs in what could be his final major tournament for his nation. Rounding out the group are two more CONMEBOL representatives in Peru and Chile, both of who are ranked above the 49th-ranked Canadians.

As Canada gears up for what they hope will be a memorable tournament, you can follow every moment of their journey on our dedicated Copa America 2024 Livescores, which will be available throughout the tournament.

What Bets to Place on Canada at Copa America 2024?

Canada4

As the lowest-ranked team in Group A, and given the class of opposition they are to come up against, it is understandable that bookmakers are giving Canada a very slim chance at qualifying for the knockout stage, let alone going on to win the tournament. However, if you dare to dream, you can lock in odds of 66.00 with Bet365 for The Reds to achieve glory at Copa America 2024.

Canada will feature in the curtain raiser of the Copa America 2024 and while they will relish the opportunity to feature on one of the grandest footballing stages in the world, they will have to take on the World Champions Argentina. Given the atmosphere that is likely to surround this grand opening, this match has all the makings of an absolute goal-fest, akin to what we saw over at Euro 2024, where the opening fixture delivered an incredible six goals.

For the tournament opener, while Argentina are massive favourites, a win for La Albiceleste and over 2.5 goals is currently returning a very respectable 2.00 with VBet. Both teams to score will get you a little over double your money back and Messi to score anytime in the match is currently backable at a tempting 3.20.

One very interesting point to note is that bookmakers are noticeably divided over Canada’s next two games in the group, particularly the match against Peru, where The Reds are currently showing up as marginal favourites. If they produce a solid first-match performance, their price is likely to drop significantly so it may be worth an early punt to lock in right away with odds of 2.00 available at Unibet
