Bano Butt Targets Olympics and UFC
Gold-medal-winning MMA fighter Bano Butt is on a mission to break new ground for Pakistani women in combat sports, with aspirations of one day competing in the UFC and potentially representing her homeland in the Olympics. Despite encountering significant cultural obstacles as a female athlete in Pakistan, Butt has demonstrated unwavering determination to chase her dream of being the best pound-for-pound female fighter in the world.
Already a champion at the IMMAF Asian Championship, she is now focused on stepping onto the global stage, with her ultimate goal being to become a UFC World Champion. Speaking in a press conference recently, Butt said:
"I want to make Pakistan proud. My dream is to win an Olympic gold, become an IMMAF World Champion, and eventually fight in the UFC. My ultimate goal is to become a UFC World Champion. That’s what I strive for."
Butt went on to praise the Pakistan MMA Federation and its president Omar Ahmed for their vital support in helping athletes like her compete on the international stage without financial limitations, which is something that South Asian nations have struggled to do for so-called smaller sports categories in recent years. She explained that the backing received has played a key role in her rise as one of Pakistan’s most promising combat sports talents.
Her journey has been far from easy, though, marked by the struggle to break stereotypes, challenge societal norms, and prove herself in a largely male-dominated sport. Yet, despite these obstacles, Butt has remained resolute, determined to show that Pakistani women are capable of competing in any sport at the highest levels. Beyond her personal achievements, she is committed to mentoring and inspiring young girls in Pakistan, encouraging them to pursue their dreams and defy the odds.
